Spitzweg was clearly an anti war artist from the way he depicts soldiers, some knitting while on sentry duty, and rusty canons with bird's nests in the barrels. In the painting Er kommt (not shown), a rotund and bespectacled senior officer, accompanied by wife/mistress and pet dog comes to inspect a guard post. Taken unawares, the guard commander is seen snuffing out his pipe and putting down the paper he was reading. Very unmilitary! A good video. Thanks for featuring this talented painter.

My all-time favorite painter! Yes, there are more famous ones, but he makes me smile. The era is Biedermeier, the Napoleonic wars, the time of changes.

I love Spitzweg but your video isn't made with much care - some paintings twice, some cropped, many colour casts, low dynamic range, blurryness... Althought the music is very appropriate!
