Peter did the right decision to stay and be a proper dad which he is to Simon. I love that about him. He just put Simon first

The way I saw it was that he just needed to put on a brave front for Simon. The smile was just to prepare himself for turning round and facing his son. The whole Peter/Leanne/Nick triangle that followed was more about creating drama for Nick and Leanne before the wedding than hinting at Peter and Leanne getting back together. Plus, now it's been confirmed that there's a big Peter/Carla storyline coming up! So, I think us Peter/Carla fans are ok for now!!

Peter is really confusing me.... the way he smiled, was that just to kind of get his head round talking all nice to simon again, or was he happy that shes gone, and at the end he just says "Shes gone" as if it didnt matter :'( She is coming back right?

I think it would have been better for the character of Carla if this was her permanent departure. The bubbly character that had arrived 6 years earlier had already had enough thrown at her by this point. The vitality had gone, she looked older and more careworn and ultimately the Peter relationship was going nowhere. She should have realised when she looked in his eyes that he didn't really love her. The next three and a half years were just total misery heaped on top of her, and in the end stayed too long.

This makes so much sense and while I agree AK is an amazing actress, the character of Carla fizzled out by mid 2015 and what we saw was a load of misery as you've stated. I think Stuart Blackburn is to blame considering he led the show from 2013 to 2016 including Carla's exit. He didn't know what to do with the character and continued to make her Tracy's bitch for her exit story line, yet again piling on more misery and an awful exit. I'm so glad that it won't be her final exit given that she is returning. I trust the new producer Kate Oates

I really hate Carla for trying to separate Peter and Simon. When she made him choose, surely she knew he'd choose Simon in the end.

She didn't make him chose. She told him that she had to go and he needed to be there for Simon

Coronation Spoilers She did make him choose though. Her leaving was forcing him to choose and she was stupid if she thought he'd choose her over his son.
