I heard they get aggressive when older? I wanted to get one but was told chow chow aren’t really the ones who like to cuddle when grown? Also, since I’m small myself, are there chow chows breeds who stay small??🤔

@@ABc-nu6jb The personality of the dog depends on how you raise them... just like with children. If you socialize them and let them get used to other people and dogs you won't have any problems. I used to have Maltese dog that are known for being friendly but I made a mistake when he was little and I didn't socialize him much so he was pretty aggressive towards some dogs. There are literal Dobermans who are friendlier than my Maltese was hahah. What I am trying to say is don't pay too much attention to how internet describes a certain breed every dog is different and it all comes down to how you raise them.

@ there are many things that are inherent and denial does not change that nor does anecdotal evidence. Many humans especially are so far removed from intuition and just repeat certain narrat.over and over thinking that would make it true. Generally speaking not just particular to this dog

@ PS: I understand what you’re saying but socialization is just one out of many factors that play a role. Same with many other animals and humans. Example chimps-very cute and loving when babies/young and complete monst.when reaching her certain age regardless of socialization

My Chow takes a lot of grooming ! She as had a problem with her eye lashes turning in. Have had this operated on but her eye still weeps 3 years on . She’s very shy of people she doesn’t know . She’s very loving If she wants to. She will do a 5 mile walk happily. Chases squirrels rabbits deer if it runs she will chase it. I love her 😍

I have 3 Chow Chows, 2 males, and they passed, and now with 2 years old cream female. All 3 have different personalities and my female is the most aggressive and hardest to deal with. it took her 1.5 year to quit biting. We even started her with a trainer at 8 weeks. The boys didn't have any issue with biting ever. One of the boys was very sweet, and friendly to any cat or birds. The other male didn't like other male dog but that was it. Still today, no one can pet my female Chow, though she is an absolutely teddy bear with us and loves to cuddle and sleep us. Due to their aggressive nature, i will still only want to have a Chow and not other breed.

My friend had a gorgeous baby doll red Chow in NYC. Everywhere we went, people would stop and admire her. He had to suddenly leave town and asked me to check on her, even though I had gone on walks regularly, she refused to go out, growling if I tried to leash on her. She didn't go out for an entire week, and neither did she soil the apartment. Very stubborn girl. Your boy is magnificent with that enormous head. He deserves all the steak and chicken his heart desires. ❤

I have 2 chow chow and I can confirm one of them is stubborn as hell but the other one he’s not as stubborn and he’s like a golden retriever, because I trained him from like literally a newborn baby

Just a tip carl if ur not aware oatmeal shampoo is great for dogs who have skin problems. Our jack has really itchy skin and ever since we have been using oatmeal shampoo he doesnt itch as much. On that note glad ur doing well i see

Carl am from the P.I. its hot hot here, my Chows developed HOTSPOT as my Vet calls it. Air conditioning up to 21 degrees solved that. No more itch, pulling, biting and hair falling off. But He still loves a good back scratch. Chows have diff personalities i thought I'd my last Chow as am 63 yo . Boy was I wrong. Compared to my previous Obedient, calm, relaxed, aloof Chow..new one was Rambunctious, Sociable to a point, Naughty & much more extroverted loving Playful. But He is maturing late the former stopped playing Early lived to 14 yo. New Chow is also possessive protective of Me & husband. He has bitten His Caregiver who stays with Us because He thought She was interfering in my affairs or Came to near Me. Also Chow DO NOT REACT well to ANESTHESIA. Mine 2nd Chow almost died she was a lovely lovely girl She was never quite the Same again, i Loved my girl Tinky. She is gone but am grateful for her She taught Me lessons i never forget.

We adore our chow. She’s only seven months old so she still has a lot of energy. They all have different personalities. We have tried to socialize her as much as possible, and the one thing I have found she barks at strangers because she doesn’t know you, but if you’re a female or a child, she stops fairly quick. She absolutely adores children. The weird thing is she is more distrustful of men. Our chow is a blue chow. She is not the teddy bear look of Carter, she looks closer to the original breed- longer muzzle and she is leaner. She is very loving to us and has cat behavior, she likes to be near you, but she is not exactly all over you. Chow’s are not people pleasers, so yes, she is stubborn!

I've been lucky enough to have raised three Chows. They are a great breed if their owner understands them. They are stubborn but everything comes down to how you socialize them when they are young. I used to take my baby to sit outside of a busy market and let everyone pet him. The only bad Chows are ones that have bad owners (don't understand the breed). It should also be noted that they have very bad, if no, peripheral vision, so should always be approached from the front, not the side.

I love Chows, but they are definitely one person dogs. My chow Zeke was my best friend, he loved and protected me with his life. I can't say the same for him and my daughter. One evening when she was playing with him, he snapped and she ended up with 53 stitches in her face.

No, Carter has what’s called rough coat, very fluffy. Smooth coat is shorter but very thick.

My chow chow is lazy what to do

My 1st dog was a fawn chow chow 51 years ago. They were quite rare in my neighbourhood. She was quite timid and didn't like other dogs. She was a little sod walking with me as a 10 year old as obviously I was quite young but she walked to heel with my mum who stayed at home to bring up the family. There wasn't hardly any traffic on the roads back then so alot of peoples dogs roamed around without leads on. She was never let off the lead with me as her recall was non existent however she behaved impeccably with my dad on her evening walkies. My mum fed her cooked meat every day with purina dry food mixed with gravy. She had weetabix with a raw egg and milk for breakfast to keep her fur in good condition. Unfortunately she suffered from etropia where the eyelashes grow into the eyes so she had an op to cut the lid and pull them back...I think its a typical inbreeding issue. Chows don't need excessive walking at all, they like their own space and mine absolutely loved the snow. I miss my beautiful girl, she was so gorgeous. She died of stomach cancer aged 6, 3 months after my mum died. I never wanted to get another dog for years but after I retired 6 years ago I wanted a companion so adopted a cute little rescue cavapoo. She loves every human she sees and wants cuddles from them. She sticks like a limpet to me 😂she is not independant at all like my chow was. I love my little girl and she brings me great joy. I love seeing your Carter, he reminds me so much of my chow😊

@@Shinchan-pr1hb I never ever saw an aggressive chow chow in all the years I've been around them, but like all dogs, they will protect themselves and their owners. If the owner trains them properly then there shouldn't be any problems. Chow chows have really thick fur and an undercoat so suffer in really hot conditions. Mine would've happily slept outside in the snow but she was our pet so laid in the freezing cold hallway with her head poking into the lounge to keep her eye on us😅. Chow chows aren't too fussy about playing, like labradors. They like their own space. If I had a bigger house I would've got another one but my little bungalow and garden isn't the right fit for a big dog. My cavapoo weighs only 4kg so is perfect for me😊

I love my Chow Chow. He had skin issues. Stop using deshedding shampoo is essential. To dry for their skin. We(he) uses Martha Stewart dog shampoo and conditioner. It's beautiful. He's never scratched again. My guy is also a fussy eater. He knows when he's had good or cheap dog food. He prefers real food nothing with grain. I buy organic and or non GMO just as important. His treats are also grain free. He's not into fetch or any toys except his lamb chop. He's had her by his side for two years. Loves outdoors hiking camping ~ anything that involves him and I. He loves being social. Is very curious on everyone's going ons. Doesn't necessarily want to be petted. But loves to come say hi.he smells the flowers all of them. And yes you may touch me. He loves dog parks. And really any store he's allowed in . Hes also polite and so smart. He will graciously take your peanut butter grain treat. Go around the corner then drop it. He also has learned to scratch his fur and come shock me while driving. (I'm the driver obvious)He smiles everytime.
