Carlin is a track star. Even though he played footballl, his track speed is what helps him on the rugby field. Football and Rugby are too very different things and the transition isn't always easy. Carlin Isles runs a 4.22 and is not only faster than most rugby players, but also is faster than most American football players. The USA already has more people playing rugby than New Zealand and Australia combined. The reason we lose on the international level is because even though in many cases we have better athletes, we do NOT have better skills and our guys are not better rugby PLAYERS. Just because Carlin is a great rugby player doesn't mean he could be an NFL caliber football player, and just because an NFL player is great doesn't mean they could take the pads off and go to a higher-cardio-demanding-sport and play rugby at the same level. While the sports have similarities, they are very different in a lot of different ways. Stop getting on here and hating on Rugby when you know nothing about it. "Carlin Isles can only play D2 football..." He runs a 4.22. People get drafted highly if they can run a sub 4.25, and there are only a few football players who have that capability. He is simply a speed demon and 7's the best sport for speed demons.

@4EverDubin, I will give toy the bright of the doubt that there are shine bigger fellas that are quick in AF. But let's are how majority of then do WITHOUT an OFFENSIVE line in front of them, or a pulling guard, or even a burly Fullback to clear a path for then to weave through. I've played both bring raised in the states. By far, RUGBY requires more athleticism. Not just speed, and power like majority of our American footballers. Endurance, stamina, and true Discipline. Not staying that there isn't any of that in AF ballers. It's a huge lack though as a whole compared to RUGBY.

People tryna ignore the obvious fact that he's black...if more blacks were to play rugby for American they'd dominate any team.. it's because there aren't a lot of black players that usa doesn't dominate...I myself run a 4.35 and haven't run track in some years now...we're on another level

You don't think the rest of the world has guys running sub 4.4 in the forty? I'll tell you right now that they do..... Carlin Isles is special because he runs 4.1 when he wants to....blowing by guys like you.

King Zay Rugby isn't all about speed dude. Speed could help for 7s but you need toughness and strategy more than anything. And bullshit you ran 4.35, the fastest time ever in the nfl combine is 4.24

Max Bolton Not validating for King Zay but 4.35 is not impossible for someone not playing professional sports. Its been done on numerous occasions. People need to learn how to not put others down.

dushmannrc Same thing to rugby players trying to play AF. So what is your point? Also, Carlin Isles played AF. You can't just throw a track & field guy and expect him to fair as well. If anything Isles has the 'stop and go' acceleration, juke moves and vision of a AF player . He don't run like a rugby player.

Isles ran a 4.22, 40 yard-dash when trialing with the Detroit Lions...... after having done a fair bit of endurance work for rugby. He would probably be in the top 3 fastest guys in the NFL if not the fastest over 40. Sure he lacks size but he will face the same issues in rugby when he plays against the best rugby players (not 7's) when he is outweighed by 40-100lbs. I agree with what you say though, a lot of college sprinters who play football should look to rugby...... USA could win the 7's at the Olympics no problem with the pace they could bring.

Also just watched your highlights and looked up Sione. Stats show he is 5'10", 196lbs, and runs a 4.4 dash. So not massive and not as fast either.

4EverDubin- I doubt any NFL player could play for over 2 mins! I've never seen a sport with so many breaks in all my life, makes cricket look exciting and that's saying something!!

Well you think you can just throw any track & field guy out their and expect him to fair as well?! NOPE! If anything it's Carlin's upbringing with AF and t&f that made him perform as well in Rugby so far.

you should know that NFL players have better all around athletic potential than rugby players, they are stronger and faster and contrary to your beliefs just as conditioned aswell. Carlin isles tears up rugby because there is no one on his speed level but in NFL where people who have trained in sprinting like him are. he would not be the star he is.

NFL players have the stamina they have because their sport requires weight and explosiveness. They are TOP athletes and could dominate any sport. No other sport produces speed, like american foot ball. Our third string wide receivers would out pace and step any rugger... If rugby was americas top sport, we WOULD dominate. Our boys in the south are just to quick.

@4EverDubin 10 жыл бұрын
Jared Laufiso Yeah just too much athleticism. Something I believe rugby is missing out on. It's funny how they emphasize stamina to be some type of skill. If anything stamina is something you get use to, and rugby pace is easy to adapt to. AF players already master the hard part in being pure athletically.

Ask French teams what happened when they tried to do that to Takudzwa Ngwenya, also a former winger in USA Rugby. Ask the Top 14 and the Challenge Cup about that little bowling ball of a speed merchant.
