It always amazes me how you get the joints so accurate. Also watching Kris Harbor building his barn and all the joints and tenons and mortices etc all fit nicely. Whenever I made mortice and tennis joints the tendons always ended up to thin and would slip in and out like throwing a banjo down a hallway lol.😂

Alex, your slow, patience crafting of wood demonstrates the beauty of creating a wooden boat. It is the sum of so many carefully done parts. Yet over time a seductive shape grows clear to use. This is the the magic of what you and Steve have given us all. Thanks for you.

I was curious about what a carlin joint was as I watched Alex working so I looked it up. Bad idea. I got 3-4 hits about boat building in general & 6,000+ hits for George, rest his soul. The template Alex was using wasn't even shown either, darn. That is 1 difficult & interesting joint to make, let alone doing it perfectly 20+ times. Very nicely done.

Delicate two-step across unfinished frames, carrying what is fairly dense, heavy and substantial 50-60mm thick hunks of timber, you must both have quads like kangaroos and hand-strength grip like a machinists vise! I understand that building the boat is primary, the camera angles have much to be desired in the last several episodes. So many things are being missed by just slightly poor shots. Exactly, Scott and Peter. The removed material is not a void, and all the parts of a boat work in chorus-the house side beams are made stronger by the side deck beams (carlins), which fill those notches.

Thank you again ship is looking great. I have a question. Are you monitoring the shape of the haul? As you add weight to the outer deck structure is gravity pulling things outward. I remember Steve talking about keeping an eye on things earlier in the build especially over the length of the boat. With tempature and humidity cycles wood can do some funny things. Also how long did it take Atkins to build his boat. Did he have a larger crew of shipwrights working with him. It would suck to realize Arabella had become the victim of gravity and humidity.
