I have my Barbour Bedale for over 40 years. I sent it for re-waxing about 3 years ago and it still looks brand new. For water repellence it’s top notch. Cons, it’s a little thin for cold weather. I do have an original zip in liner but it’s also not too warm. So in the cold weather you have to layer up. Re-waxing was inexpensive. And I believe it you tear a Barbour jacket they will repair it.

I recently got my Workhorse V8 a few days ago and I've been wearing it nonstop. I don't normally buy expensive jackets, but this thing is a beast. Just feeling its construction immediately lets you know that Carl isn't joking when he says that triple-stitching waxed canvas is no easy feat. The triple seams feel like iron, and it amazes me how the jacket can feel so light and so freaking durable at the same time, it's like nothing I've felt on my Carhartt, Duluth or even 1620 products. Though I doubt I'll get to test its anti-water properties soon (living in SoCal) I can attest that this is easily the best jacket worth my money because it's insanely functional, well thought out, and even stylish.

Oil cloth or sail cloth is what they used to use for sails on sailing ships. It's canvas. Not sure if Driza-Bone is the same company from 25 years or more ago. I have Filson Double Tin chaps made in USA when I bought them back in the 90"s for hunting and I reproofed them with Sailors. Even the double tin isn't as thick as my Driza Bone drover. I do tend to only wear it in the fall and winter---not so much because it's too warm for summer (I live in the Bay Area, so the summer is cold) but just the vibes are so fall/winter. I can't recommend it enough! Edit: for what it's worth, I definitely prefer that it has just buttons instead of a zipper from an aesthetic standpoint. Great content... BUT... My personal observation about the green jacket with leather cuffs and collar etc, come from my ownership of my Barbour Bushman (bought 1995), still immaculate with one re-wax, done by myself. A padded heavy jacket. The drawback i have is the LEATHER COLLAR... (corduroy collar normally on every other model). Your green jacket has a oiled collar, I believe. Whereas the Barbour bushman has a shiny smooth (plasticky feel) leather collar. Okay if you are wearing a scarf or a hoodie to protect the back of your neck, but having that leather, plastic feeling collar, touching the back of your neck when you transition from the cold outside to a warmer place or building/department store is frankly annoying, due to instant sweaty neck moistness. Some of these other jackets seem to have forgotten they are waxed and supposedly waterproof, The pockets don't have storm flaps with a fastener on them, won't the pockets fill up with water when rain water runs down the wax cloth? I have owned Barbour since the 80s, when they still sized them generously. And Orvis heritage since 00s. Happy owner at the moment of X3 Barbour and X2 Orvis jackets... even though, for some reason, 2 of them have shrunk a tiny bit, and not because i put on weight 😊

Looking for 0ne with buttoned and hidden hardware pockets a longer body so I don't get cold bump bumcrack breeze full wool liner both upper chest pockets 1 interior breast pocket and hood. I do all kinds of industrial outdoor work in cold wet weather in oregon. Lots of grease and welding and getting in 350 degree confind spaces for a quick period and tons of welding. I'd love to see a same video but hooded. But some extra length especially in back works better for real work in all positions I'm searching for a good one to just wax my own

Overall, I still prefer the Filson Short Cruiser. A lot of great jackets here for sure.

I love the look of that TAD Internal WX! A waxed herringbone?? Brilliant! I have a Flint & Tinder waxed jacket but it’s not the trucker. It’s the hunting style, which the model name I can’t think of at the moment. It’s in an olive color & I dig it, but don’t find it to be very warm. So I’ll throw those electric warmers in the back game pocket, which warms the kidneys quite well.

Really enjoyed this video. I own the Iron and Resin and was biting my nails when you were ranking it. Lol. Im on the leaner side, so the fit works for me and I enjoy the uneven wax, as it seems more rugged to my eye. I also feel like its fairly heavy and couldnt imagine wearing a 24oz beast. Just wish it was made in the US. Im also really lucky to have won a Belstaff jacket at the LA distinguished gentleman's ride. Its beautiful and a tank (mainly due to the armor), but its really flexible and not stiff at all.

This is a bad ass video it’s a ton of work to just buy all of this product and create the comparison. I just became aware of Bradley mountain as a brand. Ordered their Wilder Waxed canvas backpack. Might need to think about that jacket. Ughhh lol.

Another great video and comparison! The only downside to the better quality jackets is trying to actually pick one up when I have the cash... vs placing an order and waiting until next year to get one. Ha. Timing can be lucky at times... but I guess that's the game you play.

Great review and breakdown of features and value. I was not aware of the wide variety of choices. Quality video production as well.

Try the Over Under Waxed Briar jacket. Made in England and excellent quality!

Drizabone was my first waxed jacket but too outdoorsy for work. Barbour blends into the urban environment well and can be dressed up.

Great video, Carl! One of my favorites so far. A not so well known brand you could check out is Peregrine from the UK. Huckberry stocks them and they might fall in between Barbour and Belstaff. Slim fitting motorcycle styles. LL Bean just came out with the 1924 Field Coat in waxed Millerain and that looks/feels great. Lastly, Taylor Stitch always runs a few waxed jacket models, but I'm guessing TS would fall towards the lower end of quality spectrum. You should've showcased your Tensaw! I love my Tensaw and Kingsman waxed vest.

I can recommend Barbour living in England but wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one of the Flint and Tinder jackets

Same here. I bought one last year and I absolutely love it. It's not as waxed as the one he has though. Its pretty dry.

I have a Filson cotton duck Packer coat that I have had for over 25 years and in bad weather it is still my go to jacket. I ordered the wool liner with it and have never had to use it a hoodie and my packer and I am good.

ok think about why you're wearing a waxed canvas... because its water proof right? so when you're wearing this jacket its probably because its raining because if it wasn't you'd be wearing a hoodie... so what you need is actually water sheding features like pocket flaps over the outer pockets and a storm flap at least. i personally prefer buttons over snaps. theyre easier for me to do and dont come undone unintentionally.
