A point that I haven't seen mentioned enough, is how good Alcaraz's anticipation is. Watch especially when someone tries the drop shot against him. By the time the ball is still coming off their racket, Carlos is already in motion forward. Yes, he is ridiculously fast. But he is also combining superb footwork that keeps him balanced toward moving any direction and reading his opponent's shot almost before they have decided on it.
@barryschwarz

Yes, that's right. He reads the play with uncanny skill, with a remarkable success rate also of whether to start running across the court or stay in the corner when the other player decided to hit behind him. Just great anticipation for every kind of shot.

Agreed. I think this is the one way that players might eventually be able to plan against him. If he's cheating to certain spot, try to use it against him, and keep him off guard. If you can get him guessing wrong at least half the time, maybe he starts to second guess himself. But he's an incredible player. He reads the game and executes so well.

I just saw him crush Zverev in Madrid. Zverev, Tsitsipas and Medvedev are already having nightmares with Carlos. And he's just getting started. He is insanely good. Like I keep saying, he is taking tennis to the next level of ultimate power, efficiency, while also doing it in a very esthetic and flashy style. He seriousness, work ethic and consistency are Big 3 material and he is the only player we can say that about. He has the whole package. Roger's deadly forehand and drop shot, Rafa's phenomenal endurance and resilience, Novak's outrageous defense and mental strength and he will just turn 20 this week. I keep saying he is like a hybrid of the Big 3, which is just insane. It's scary to think about how he will play at 24-25. Provided he more or less injury free, he can get to 20 GS won and maybe even beyond, considering he's got another 15-20 years left to play in the ATP tour.

I'm not sure how many GS he will win, though I can't really imagine him winning fewer than 10, but I sincerely hope that he stays healthy so we can find out! But Rafa has certainly had injury issues, and he's won 22, so I guess anything is possible. The more I think about it, the more I wonder how Alcaraz ever loses on clay and most hard courts. To me, he almost looks like the perfect player, like something out of a lab. As you said, he is a hybrid of all of the Big Three; it's wild. And I don't think any of that is hyperbole. This year's RG will be very interesting, of course, but what I *really* want to see is Alcaraz vs. Djokovic at the US Open. That would be just insane.

He def. is the real deal but I am always hesitant to compare with Big3 level until someone has won may be at least 3-4 Slams. Let him do that which I am sure he will but its not done till its done. Remember that the last person to win more than 3 slams other than Big3 was Agassi who retired in 2006. That's how hard it has been to win Slams in the Big3 era. They were just too special. Let Carlitos win a few first.

I'm always surprised when someone talk about mental strength and defense and chooses Djoko over Rafa. Djokovic is indeed strong with those but Rafa's superior and known for those (among other things like forehand, footwork, speed, stamina, court coverage). I'd say Djoko is much more known for his return, backhand and balance which are things I see more in Sinner than Alcaraz. Also I wouldn't say Carlos has shown that much of mental strength for now.

Love this compilation so much, I even got teary-eyed there a couple of times. On defense, Carlitos has an uncanny ability to anticipate where his opponent will hit the ball. At the speeds they are hitting and running, he is only able to return the ball because he headed in the right direction before his opponent even hit the ball. This kid was born to play tennis. And We are so glad he is... Playing tennis. He is so incredibly good, it's almost ridiculous what he is doing on court. And he is just 20????😮😮 We are on for an awesome ride with him on the ATP Tour. What a great time to be alive in the ERA of Alcaraz. Praying for good health and optimal fitness for him. I daresay, 25+ Grandslams all things being equal.

Anybody else feel like they're watching Roger? I've been watching some old RF highlights today and there're shots Alcaraz makes that you could superimpose on them. The hands, the wrist action, the reflexes, the backpedaling, the use of the lines, the uncanny rangefinding. Even the "Tweener-Lob". Amazing!

Ottimo giocatore, potente fisicamente. Buongiorno

This guy switches between a roger forehand and a rafa forehand naturally. till now, i have seen only roger do that hop skip backwards and flick that forehand crosscourt for a winner. (i think it was at wimbledon?). His inside-out forehand's body movement and racquet movement is almost a carbon copy of roger's. And his net game is solid. And his backhand adjusts beautifully for various scenarios and is rock solid like djoker's backhand. Damn! Talk about possessing a solid arsenal. The supposed next-gen are really gonna have a tough time against carlos once rafa and djoker exit the scene.

Unfortunately, in today's game with the need for shot tolerance and the heavy spins modern racquets can produce, a single handed backhand is a liability. If Roger had a 2 handed backhand, he would have won 25-30 slams. As good and beautiful as his one handed backhand was.
