This is a huge shock!! 😙 Who would have thought that Spain with their team; with their record, and playing at home would have lost this one to a hardly spectacular on paper Dutch team, but then this is the unpredictability of sport for yer!...It's all about who plays best on the day!!

Spain fucked up with playing Nadal in singles. The Netherlands always had some of the best doubles players out there. Nadal winning in singles was really doubtfull so going against Koolhof in the doubles was just too much.

He probably did... and maybe also thought that Rafa would win his match (which I'd bet on as well after how he's played this year). Really a shame for them to go out in the 1st round, especially in Spain that could use a win right now. But yeah, Rafa's retirement is as good excuse as they could get.

Personally glad Carlitos needs a f****** rest I've never seen someone play a fuller schedule of tennis. While the other one was testing positive for drugs twice Carlos was literally playing every tournament since the French Open including the Olympics and Laver usually playing doubles as well. I think it affected his second half of the year and I hope this is it he needs a break.

Playing Rafa for Spain means not fielding the best team. Yes, he's a legend but truthfully, several other Spanish players are playing better than Rafa but I guess he has to play if he wanted to.

And now it’s officially over with Nadal, as much as I’m pretty sure everyone expected Alcaraz to seriously carry this doubles, just like the Olympics, this pretty much showed people how frustrating this could be considering Alcaraz is not a doubles player, yes he can try but no. I’m pissed about this because this should have been Granollers and Nadal playing the F.
