One thing about him: he survived the intense hype surrounding young talents that usually gives them too much pressure and block them from achieving great results. Alcaraz received enormous amounts of hype and Big 3 comparisons, and yet managed to go through that and get to the top.

I remember vividly watching these Rio highlights and being instantly drawn to the kid. I'm no genius, the commentators were all saying he might be the next big thing. Seeing it was believing it instantly. I've watched almost all of his highlights / matches ever since and it was clear he was ultra special and a future number 1. He was instantly on the fast track. A prodigy. I've enjoyed the ride the last 2 and a half years. Gotta be honest even I didn't think he would get where he is this fast. Nadal and Djokovic (and Zverev) had unfortunate seasons so there was some luck involved clearly. But let's see now what he does with his new status. It's gonna be a heavy target to carry. Good luck Carlos.

Alcaraz is capable of so much more. It's scary. To think of it, when the Big 3 won their first slam, there were clear areas to improve on in all of their games. Federer - backhand consistency, Rafa - net play + serve, Novak - net play + overhead! Alcaraz looks like the complete player already. But naturally players will find a way to play against him and make him adapt further and change his game when required, but he can achieve greatness with his Rafa attributes (humility + hardwork)

I still have memories of watching footage of Nadal playing a match when he was 14 yrs old. Can't remember what the event was or even if it was a competitive match but it has really stuck in the memory. I remember thinking I had never seen a player play so aggressive. It was a brand of tennis I had never seen before. Even aggressive players including Nadal himself who has adapted his game since he was a raw 14yr old, generally work themselves into rallies before picking the right moments to really unleash on the forehand or backhand but that 14yr old Nadal was ripping every single ball, hitting it so hard with so much top spin. It was absolutely savage. The impressive thing about it was how few errors he was making. Playing so aggressively is high risk which usually leads to mistakes but he was making so few. Right there I thought this a special freak player who could be an all time great of the game. I get the same feeling watching this kid Alcaraz. I never thought I would see a player quicker around the court than Djokovic. Alcaraz movement and speed is ridiculous. He is so exciting to watch and is saving tennis for me right now. As a huge Federer fan, his absence from the tour over the last year and his recent retirement announcement has almost lost tennis for me but in Alcaraz there may just be a reason to continue watching! I just hope he can keep his great team around him to keep him grounded and that he can stay clear of injury which could be a tough ask given his style of play.

We realize the mentality of Carlos Alcaraz when we compare the defeat of Alexander Zverev, (in the final of the Master 1000 in Madrid) who found as an excuse the fatigue caused by the late end of his semi-final to explain his crushing defeat in the final against Carlos Alcaraz while Carlos Alcaraz was able to play 3 very difficult matches until late and win the US Open !

Cant agree more with you guys. Alcaraz gaining experience while staying healthy for hopefully a very long time would be insane. Could also be very similar to Rafas career, a lot of injuries during the years. But when he played, almost always very competitive with amazing comebacks. Only time will tell, wishing him all the best of course. For the present, I am enjoying the matches of Alcaraz so much, because every rally could be the next "rally of the tournament or year". That is something I have never felt with any player, except Federer. The physical play, insane speed, shotmaking, power and talent are a fantastic combination.

Yes, but we have to take into account the huge factor of luck, because regardless of his perfect game, he could not have reached the number 1 spot so quickly with this number of titles if the fucking ATP had not totally restarted the table, and took away points from all players, where in my opinion a great pity, Djokovic is totally damaged and crippled, and then there are Medvedev and Zverev and Tsitsipas. I mean, I'm not disputing absolutely anything Carlos has accomplished, he's just been insanely lucky to get to #1 so quickly. Am still very excited for Alcaraz, even though he lost to Novak in the RG Semi’s, so he’s played in three Slams so far and won, one of them US open .last years RG QF this years Semi Final and lost only 4 matches so far this season. Is he someone to look out for? Definitely. As his experience gets better he’ll be incredible

Lol you can't just watch highlights and say "this kid doesn't miss anything". Ofc he's not going to miss in highlights hahaha. In fact, his main weakness right now is probably sometimes going for too much and blasting his forehand way out.

There is one thing that all the commentators and players agree on: Carlitos is the fastest human they’ve ever seen on a tennis court. It often defies belief. The speed…and the control, strength, and imagination when he gets there. To compete, everyone around him will have to train harder, think faster, and develop an all court game. Next year will be absolutely fascinating. Can’t wait to see Novak face off against the wunderkind in Australia.
