I miss the late 90s. Before 9/11 and the wars. Before everyone was plugged in to the Matrix (Internet) every waking moment. The brief years when Gen Xers showed each other love no matter their background. When hip hop, rock, jazz, R&B, and soul were still alive. When you could drop or smoke and be free of the world's worries. How I wish we American's as a society and republic could get back to that.

She’s house music royalty. This song is my life. Her voice live is just as amazing as in the studio just perfect for house music. I started clubbing in 1997 and went crazy when I heard this Armand Van Helden's Mongoloids in Space remix of this song at The Turmills in London. I got the 12x12" and ever since this song's been part of my life. Love love love La India.

Oh, the days when you had to actually be able to sing to get a record deal. Even in the 90s there was post-production on most recordings, but the fact that she sounds nearly note-for-note and key-for-key the way she does on the CD is a testament to the exceptional quality of her real voice. Today's singers not only couldn't have pulled off this live performance vocally, their voices are produced beyond recognition on their own recordings, such that even if they did sing live, there would be too big a difference between their recorded voices and their live voices -- which is shameful for the artists and for culture, generally. I'm so glad that I was in my 20s in the 90s to be able to super-high-quality music like this in actual dance clubs.

@@SmartRobot-wc2fb There are just too many people on youtube who cling to the glory days of their favorite music and the impossibility of anything having the same impact nowadays. Same accounts for your remark. Just mention that great moment, thatś enough. The rest is nostalgia. It´ s not relevant. The medium is NOT the message, the performance is. I know it's true, MTV was at its peak, I remember so well. So what?
@SmartRobot-wc2fb4 жыл бұрын
@@deepbreather 🤣😂 You're being awkward and pathetic...do you know why? Because WTF are you to tell anybody how they can express what they feel about a certain song / moment of their lives??? Everybody has the right to feel nostalgic about something simply because that isn't necessarily bad...more over, "the impossibility of anything having the same impact nowadays" as you pointed out is not just theory or fake news...it's a FACT...anyone who truly has been following the music industry throughout the years knows that much is true...the industry has totally changed with the internet and fragmentation of media and obviously with consumer tastes...besides, people commenting/expressing how/what they lived through at that specific time can be very informative of what was going on side lines...so, it actually can be relevant... If you don't like it, why do you read the comments?! You can just overlook them...

I just got off the video window of La India's "Runaway", my memory slipping hard in forgetting that Ms. Hollloway first recorded and wrote this disco-soul hit! I was perturbed and confused because I know that this isn't La India's style. Though My memory raced to recapitulate who was the originator of "Runaway" (as I came up with Candi Stanton, Betty Wright, and Linda Clifford as possibles, I happened on Lolita's name. KZbin should repair it search software as many, many references get lost!

(Cont'd) Joe Bataan went the same route when he produce and wrote "Call My Name", which was definitely in the 'acid-disco-soul-funk ("Fusion", as it was dubbed back then,) of Zylophonist ROY AYERS! So, what La India does is mimic the style of the above-mentioned Soul\Disco Divas Uh, excuse me, but Betty Wright, Linda Clifford, and Candi Stanton were pioneers and "mavens" of Blues, Rock, and Jazz, as well as R&B Soul and Disco. I would like an answer to La India's rendition as she hasn't dittoed

remember the Nuyorican Soul Havana-style cigar box
I don't know that La India was the original singer of "Runaway", as I thought that Linda Clifford, Betty Wright, or Candi Staton sang this. It is their soul disco style that the ladies are legendary for. (Clifford sang "Runaway Love" which is distinctively different, though similar to La India's rendition). This live performance gives me the suspicion that she didn't compose this. again, is there a late 70s original to this version, because this is without a doubt retro disco. (Cont'd).
@pilaredu2 жыл бұрын
The original version was by Lolleatha Holloway back in the 70’s and India made her own version in 1997 in the Nuyorican Soul Album with Masters at work . The music was by the Salsoul Orchestra who play the original one directed by Vincent Montana who co wrote this song and played the Vibraphone.
