I'm an au pair and approached the family I work for about potty training my nanny child at 22 months because their second baby was due in two weeks time. The mom said that if I wanted to do it I have her full support and I talked to "my" little girl about it and explained to her that she is a big girl now and that because baby sister is coming we are going to potty train so that she is the big girl in the house. We took advice from the 3 Day potty training method and adapted it to our situation. We devoted 3 full days of just potty training, we didn't go out of the house or even out of her playroom the first day. She was walking around with only a shirt for the first four days and on the fifth we introduced underwear. The first day we put her on the potty every 5-10 min depending on whether she actually went the previous time and how much she drank in between. We encouraged her to drink a lot of water and rewarded her when she did use the potty. On the third day we had 2 hour stretches without any accidents. We did however put diapers on her during nap and bed time which is not what the 3 day method suggests but we know our little girl and we didn't want to overwhelm her to much. By the end of the first week she was potty trained, we barely used the "reward system" anymore and we were able to go out in public with little to mostly no accidents and by the second week she potty trained herself during nap and bedtime. We put cloth diapers on her during nap and bedtime and when she woke up her diapers were 98% out of the time dry and she told us immediately (when she woke up) she wants to go potty. Now one month later, she uses the toilette without the kids toilet seat and she does number 1 and 2 on the toilette and knows to wash her hands after and she is 23 months old. Honestly there is no perfect way or method what I learned throughout this journey is, it's not so much about the method but rather communication. We were honest about everything, talked to her when she had accidents (never ever angry) we just simply explained that we use the potty but we understand this is new to her. Top three things I would say, 1. Communication 2. Make it fun 3. PATIENCE (AND LOTS OF IT!)

Potty Training: My daughter was potty trained at 2 and a half. We bought a potty when she was 1 and started introducing the idea to her. The key is to be patient and consistent. They decide when they're ready but make sure you keep bringing it up casually and having him sit on the potty to get used to it and try it out.

Those seats are amazing!!! My now 4 year old refused to sit on the potty and wee or poo in one. I brought a seat cover like that and first time sitting on it she did everything! They are truly amazing! I think they need to do padded seats for adults though lol comfy and less cold. Hopefully you have the same success I had. Sending positive vibes and love to you all 💖

I loved watching Carlos talking to Kingston!! It was the cutest thing!! Watching Carlos go from helmet wearing goofy 20 year old to a goofy, non-wearing helmet, God serving, loving husband, and father of now 3 kids us absolutely amazing. God Bless you and your family Carlos!!

Potty Training: my little one hated the seat cover style but adored the 'their size potty' (we think the seat cover moved too much/was too intimidating). We also went unbelievably slow with it, bought the potty, she got to pick out her own panties, we read books about it (Usborne's 'What is Poo?' is still her favourite lol), after a few months we mentioned trying it out but she just wasn't ready. We tried again in a few months after that and it worked great, she was simply more willing, plus it was also summer so that helped (naked freedom lol)! We used a Paw Patrol sticker chart(from Bed Bath and Beyond) and bought 'milestone' rewards to pair with it. She has been fully trained now for 5 months 😊 take it slow, go at their pace, and have fun with it!

Just remember boys are often harder to train. They usually take longer. And that’s okay. Be consistent and give him lots of patience

Best piece of advice I got and it actually worked. Do not use pull ups. It'll be a lot of work but if you take him off of diapers complete just use regular underwear. I trained my son and daughter using that method and it worked both times. My first was trained in 7 seven days and my second in 5. They still had accidents but I didn't make it a big deal. And every child is different so find, always use what works for you, your little one, and your schedule.

Stay consistent. Learn his potty routine. Put him on the potty every 15 to 30 minutes. I am a preschool 3 year old teacher. I have been super successful

My son had a hard time at first. Best thing to do is ditch diapers completely. Let ocean pick out his own big boy undies. Make it a huge deal for him. Get him excited! If you’re getting him a toddler potty, let him pick that out as well. Best thing to do is don’t force anything. At night If you want you could do pull-ups but I personally thought they were a waste of money. We had Elmos potty time on the tv religiously. It seemed to really work because my son loves Sesame Street. You can find the episode right on KZbin. We also kept the potty in the living room for the first couple weeks. We had our kitchen timer set for like 30 minutes to 40 minutes. Every time it went off, we had him sit on his potty. If he didn’t go after like 10 minutes, we’d have him get off and play and then go back on 10 minutes later. After awhile he got the idea of when you feel you have to go, drop what you’re doing and just go to the potty. But like I said, make it a big deal. Make him feel like a big boy and make it fun.

Ahhh potty training! Lol. We potty trained my son at 2. It took a little bit. But, he got it down pretty good :) I introduced him to it the first month or so, then daddy helped him with the boy stuff 😉 hes almost 5 now..and goes to the bathroom by himself like a big boy! Our daughter on the other hand, I tried to start her out(we think a little too soon) But, shes just stubborn and goes when she wants lol. Shes 2and half and sassy. Y'all got this!!💜

I wanted to add that we have both the seat to put on our toilet and an actual little potty for her. It’s helped to have the potty in the same room she’s in so she can just run to it really fast when she has to go. And like other commenters have said letting them run around naked has also worked. Wanted to let you know what has worked for us so far since we are just barely starting this journey.

I have two boys with autism. Until they were able to understand and tell us they have to go we knew they weren't ready. My oldest, who just turned 6 last month was finally potty trained this past January. I just switched to underwear completely and he would start to go in his undies and felt them get wet and would run to the toilet and finish there and ask for a new pair. They have paw patrol undies! That's how we got him excited about it too. He basically did it by himself in a week. My youngest is 4 and non-verbal and doesn't communicate about his diapers being full at all so that journey hasn't ended yet for us. Good luck with ocean :)
