As much as I love the Sonic character, I've always been more partial to second bananas like Tails.

Actually, you can reach Knuckles with Tails. Just open the capsule quickly and then fly away when Knuckles drops the bridge. Fly onto the capsule, jump, and then fly once off-screen. You can do this with Sonic if you let it drop lower and have Tails help you or use the Lightning Shield, pretty much. Sonic 3 Complete didn't fix this since it's a harmless and avoidable amusement.
