Hey, it’s the creator of Think Outside the Carl Box, Bedcliff, here. I know no one will believe me but its worth a shot. The one thing I will say is that I never expected that the fish would get that big of a reaction. I thought the launcher being launched right at the end would make the player flip out. Either way, I’m happy with how it turned out. I will be getting Mario Maker 2 and I hope to make levels better than my first one. Thanks to everyone for all of the support!

I have watched all of Carl's videos of him playing trolls for both SMM1 and SMM2, and your fish troll is hands-down my favorite troll in any troll level. Not only because of Carl's reaction, but also because it really was just such a brilliant set up with how well it trains the player to be initially annoyed with the fish killing you because you have CP1 anyway so it's just this annoyance that you have to avoid, but then when it comes time for the player to WANT the fish to kill them after getting CP2, then the fish falls on the other side. Bravo!

My guess for the clown car glitch (knowing nothing of Mario Maker's code, and only basing this on general coding principles): when an item goes into a clown car, it becomes a different object. When the clown car dies, it switches back to the original object. They probably coded it to save a bunch of its info in the temporary "car driver" object -- such as motion -- but overlooked whatever variable they use to designate "this was shot from a cannon". Most of the time you'll never notice, so testers probably never did, but with items that behave differently with or without that flag, like fireballs and fish, losing that flag creates noticeable changes in behavior after being launched into a clown car which is then destroyed.

@ CarlSagan42 The sideways fire glitch I think makes "sense" in that the clown car is interrupting it on it's normal trajectory; the other clown car confuses the fireball logic and, when the P-switch activates and kills the clown cars, instead of killing the occupant the fireball continues on the original trajectory and lands in the lava, able to fly up. I don't know HOW the glitch works, but that to me seems why!

The clown car fish trick can be heavily simplified with a on-off block setup. If spawn-rules work the same, an inaccessible two state block can automate the “either left or right” result (I.e. the fish)
