Carlsbad is more upscale and expensive. Oceanside is (was?) more blue collar, military. However, I have a friend who has a house on the beach in Oceanside, and when I visited, I was surprised to see how upscale Oceanside has become. Both nice areas!

That is not Tamarack Beach at the end of Grand Avenue. It is Carlsbad State Beach, but the locals often call the beaches by the perpendicular street intersections, so that would be the beach at Grand Avenue. Tamarack Beach is located where Tamarack meets Carlsbad Boulevard a couple of miles south of where you are located.

So Cal has the best Beach towns in the U.S. period. Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas, Solana, Newport, Venice, Laguna, Coronado, etc... change my mind. also just the best cities or towns.
