It’s amazing that even top grandmasters mess up rook and pawn endgames. Lesson : learn all one can about rook and pawn endgames and you’ll net many points!

I'm surprised by the tale of the tape and the misplay count at the end. There are four significant evaluation drops for white but only one classified as a mistake. I know it's all heuristics and doesn't matter in the end, but it feels incongruous. Nevertheless, great game with a great lesson to take away. Thanks, Jerry.

More good Magnus coverage. Any hope of some more live titled arena commentaries? Those are my favorite.

I don't understand why he capture the A pawn at 12:12 instead of the C pawn... and then the A or E pawn.
@radekz0lКүн бұрын
I assume its because of e4+ and then ra6 resulting in white not having a passed pawn
@HansPolakКүн бұрын
@@radekz0l But then the king can pick up the E pawn next.

by principle we always want to produce passed pawns (as well as them being outside as an extra benefit), which you can only do in 1 move by capturing the a-pawn (you can calculate and confirm this, white uses the threats of pushing the a-pawn to tie black down, while if you capture the c-pawn you need extra time to take the a-pawn and that is what makes the difference)
