A 7 mile circular walk starting at Huthwaite Green, east of Swainby, then using the Cleveland Way & Coast to Coast path, take a high level moor land path to Carlton Bank, with impressive views across wild moor land. Then head south across the Moors to descend into the valley at Sugdale to return to the start point

Thank you so much for making this video & posting it. I have family connections with Carlton and Faceby dating back to the 18th century, when the Prissick family owned & operated the alum mines at Carlton Bank. Carlton is sadly a long way for me, which only allows me infrequent & brief visits, but I was lucky enough to be able to visit the alum mines on Carlton bank. I was unaware of the existence of the paved track or packhorse route, until I found it on my way from Lord Stones. I am intrigued by the pack horse route from Lord Stones & wondered how far it ran along the ridge line. Your film tells me that it extends a considerable distance west of Carlton Bank. Do you know if this paved route extends west of Lord Stones? Have you filmed that route towards Whitby?

Hi Nicholas As the track going east towards Whitby is now part of the Cleveland Way and Coast to Coast long distance footpaths. They have been improved to prevent erosion, so a lot of the paths have stone, often it appears from Old Warehouses / Mills floors. On the high moors it is often just the local bed rock - sandstone or limestone. I was up on Urra last week, there is still so much evidence of the iron ore extraction. I didn't know about the Alum extraction around Carlton Bank. There are definite signs of industrial extraction. I thought it was either iron ore or Jet. Where do you live now? I would gladly make another video if you want to know how another location looks now. Jim
