Carlton Select final broadcast day (March 1st 2000)

Carlton Select originally launched as 'SelecTV', a cable-exclusive channel showing a mix of comedy and drama programmes from the SelecTV production company. Later purchased by Carlton, it became one of the early channels exclusive to the ONdigital terrestrial platform, starting at 5pm each afternoon, time sharing with Carlton Food Network. However, Carlton eventually made the decision to close Carlton Select entirely, giving over the broadcast hours to extend Carlton Food Network's transmissions across the full day. As a consequence that's why this presentation of Carlton Select's last day on the air features so many CFN trailers. This is from March 1st, 2000.

At least Carlton here said had the decency of saying goodbye... Not much difference compared to Carlton Kids/World. it seems the only real grand goodbyes were for CFN and Cinema as they shutdown.

I actually think that the final night of Carlton Select was the evening of February 29th-morning of March 1st, 2000, as it was a leap year.

Hi! I loved seeing this. I had Sky Digital at the time so I never got to watch the Carlton channels. Thank you for uploading this 🙂 A quick question - what software do you use to capture the footage? I have a load of old VHS tapes with all manner of stuff on them but I bought a "VHS to USB" adapter thing from Amazon which (barely) works. I've hooked up my VCR to my PC but despite looking online for decent software, I'm kind of drawing a blank...any help you could give?
