Wow I love this song. Brings many memories back from my first Husband. We met in High School and got married at 17. Had a great few years together, but Army life changed him. This song speaks to my heart and the pain he caused me when he had with an affair with a high ranked Army's wife, that devastated me and our two girls. I never told anyone what happened, till it came out around town from hearsay. My Mom kept saying tell what he did to you. I wasn't gonna sling his name through the mud. That's not who I am. And this song came on the radio my Daughter heard it said"Mom here's your song. The one like what Dad did to you." I love the tenderness she sings the song as if she's lived this too. We Do Survive!

Sounds like you two need to make it work. I'm not hopeful mine will end happily ever after... The one I divorced was my world. This one made me get over him, THEN we got married and the real him showed up to the wedding night. Hasn't been the same since I do. Being Christian and him a former pastor, divorce ISN'T easy. If my ex called and said remarry me, I'd be gone WITHOUT a thing. Clothes on my back and NEVER look back. For now I'll just have to except my consequence of believing the first man who fakes it till he makes it... Makes it what he says should be. Now I have no friends no family here he moved us to be with a new church and turns out 8 months into the move: he HARDLY ever goes to church, he plays games all day night and I don't remember the last time he even said I was pretty, or kissed me bc he felt like it much less touched me in any way a man should want to touch his wife. Women (good ones) don't stray bc we're bored we move on so that whatever remains of our shattered selves can hopefully be used as a collage that another will have no problem loving it, like a statue or art...

@jenniferrinaldi88082 жыл бұрын
@@IWantToMature85 She didn't air what happened. The lyric is "All I know is in the end, it wasn't what he did, no, it was what he didn't do." Airing the dirty details would be throwing him under the bus. Tons of songs are inspired by love gone wrong. Do they throw those ex-lovers under the bus? She also said "Mama always said if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all." Carly didn't get into specifics. The song really applies to anyone that had a love gone wrong and/or someone we love disappoint us. The song transcends just her experience. Carly explained the song on a video here on CMT's channel from a day ago.

@@jenniferrinaldi8808 I saw some of that video. She kind of turned me off so I didn't finish it. She was somewhat bragging saying that "you want to show your ex that you are doing fine without them." That makes her seem petty and that she won't even move on. Idk why people don't call that out!

@@IWantToMature85 Writing songs is a therapy for some people. She isn't saying what her ex did wrong (AKA throwing him under the bus) she's saying What he didn't do. Which is seriously the title of the song. Maybe as the commenter above me said, you should listen to it completely before judging.

I'm happy everything worked out for you. Your also very strong for taking the plunge into divorce knowing it would affect your children. I hope they made it through it all and are as happy as ever or more. I was in love with a married woman, I know - the biggest sin I ever committed, and she was crazy about me but refused to get a divorce because she had 3 children and one on the way which was mine. She didn't want to put them through the hell of divorce and 2 of them were 13 and 11 so they definitely would've been hurt. I tried telling her to do it many times but after a couple years of us being madly crazy in love and her refusing to divorce I broke it off. I just felt like I was wasting time cause she was never going to divorce. We haven't talked in 4 or 5 years now because she won't talk to me and I let her raise my boy with her husband and I stayed away. He's 10 now, she sends my mom pics. I love her, always will, and what we did was wrong and I've repented so many times but I wish she would've been strong enough to get the divorce. Idk, it must be such a hard decision. All I know is when you feel the feeling I did for her, I'd of jumped off the Golden gate bridge if it was to be with her forever.

I already know the song and the words which struck a chord the very first time I heard them! If you’ve never been in this type of relationship, you can’t possibly know what it does to you, even when you think you might be ok! But the video, is visual genius to set the words a flight! Great work!!!

Everyone deserves to be happy. Just never understood the whole cheating thing, it’s the ultimate gut punch to someone you once cared about. If you are unhappy and it can’t be fixed then be and Adult and tell the other person it’s over BEFORE you move on.
@Ryan-bz1gt Жыл бұрын
Relationships are a two way street you both have to put in the effort it shouldn’t just be a man’s job to fight for your love way too many people think that just because they’re in a relationship that they don’t have to put in the work and the other person should always be the one putting in the effort
@cathyleeziemba35084 ай бұрын
Perhaps you are making the wrong assumption. I am sure those responding here did more than their fair share to make things work, but when you give and give endlessly and are not receiving any respect, courtesy or kindness in return, it is time to move on. It took me 26 years of trying to make life better, raising 4 kids while emotionally starving, before I got into counseling and learned you can't make it work all by yourself if the other party isn't trying at all. I have never met a divorced person who didn't choose divorce as the very last possible option after trying everything else they could to fix an unhealthy relationship. It irritates me that some people assume if you are divorced you didn't do your part, try hard enough, or gave up too easily. I had a counselor tell me if he had met me 10 years earlier he would have advised me to leave then, so I obviously went above and beyond in the 'giving and/or hoping for better' department.

The lyrics completely hit the nail on the head with my situation. Getting out of a narcissistic abusive 11 year relationship. Married 3 years and I started seeing through his mask and lies. I tried keeping my family together and forgive his physical abuse and make excuses for him. Separated for 16 months and can't wait until I can put this horrible chapter of my life to rest.

"The devil's in the details" isn't that SO TRUE for all bad breakups.. and everyone sees the details differently.. but those details don't even matter.. "treat me right, put me first, be a man of his word, stay home because HE WANTED TO" THOSE lines speak volumes and wothout any details you can already feel and heart a heart breaking.. I've cried so many times hearing this song.. and it has helped give me my strength and self respect back after being married to an extremely abusive man for 15 years.. this song tells the hurt but it also tells of the HOPE.. of finding a man that will do all of those things. NEVER SETTLE for anything less than what you DESERVE!! NO ONE in the WORLD is worth making you feel so broken all the time.. if you are currently going through a bad break up and that nrought you to this song and the comments, stay strong and know no matter how bad it hurts now and how much you feel like you are having your heart ripped our right now, keep reminding yourself there IS light at the end of it..
