I was just a teenager in high school when Carley was making it big for herself. You could always find her songs on the radio. Strange thou , our brains were itchy for rock and roll. I look back now and see her as so classic pop, that voice, rhythm. What a stunning woman. Thanks for the memories Carley.

Love ya Carly! Love her whole attitude on life and her talent yet her VOICE is the BEST when singing!

With your talent Carly you were always destined to be one of the best female singers ever and a prolific author. You’ve been groomed for greatness from childhood even though you may not admit it to yourself and even fully understand it, but you Carly, are a wonderful person inside and out and we love you for what you are. I would be so great-full if I ever got to meet you.

Another Carly decoy for the titular antihero of "You're So Vain" ~~ as one cannot imagine Henry Kissinger in a scarf of apricot.

James Taylor ghosted her which is an incredibly nasty thing to do to the mother of your children. She does not deserve this. I guess James must have got a fairly big narcissistic injury to his ego from Carly.

@@1asset True, but he knew that as a songwriter, her content, themes and images were from her own life, as for example his "Fire and Rain" were from his. This is an issue for all artists who would imitate the life they live from the heart, telling their truest truths, but at risk of the privacy of their subjects. She has still not disclosed the titular antihero of "You're So Vain," but it seems that in other of her songs JT felt unduly exposed by a wife he had trusted. She did a great job raising their singer songwriter children.

Carly comes from a privileged new England background -- DGMW, she's super-talented, her footprint in pop music is unique and unsurpassed; but one senses she is contrary, unfriendly, and rather uptight and unnecessarily supercilious. She's no angel, and as a fan, I would have hoped her to be more evolved with her success, motherhood and hardships. (James Taylor wrote "Grey Mornings" for her, them living on Martha's Vineyard -- she seems to has had untreated, untapped depression which, of course, is part of a true artist's way.) But, For some reason, she grates me, but it might be that I relate to her and that's what makes her so intriguing. LOL.

Carly was born 1945 in the Bronx borough of New York City, where too in 1899 her father Richard Simon had been born, his parents having been German Jewish immigrants to NYC. Carly's mother nee Andrea Heinemann had a German Jewish father, and a Cuban pardo (triracial European, Amerindian and West African) mother born in Cuba, but from age 16 raised in England by Catholic nuns. So Carly's genetic and cultural background was diverse. Carly as a child was so shy she stammered, which her mother cured by getting her to sing her talk. Any great, prolifically creative fine artist such as Carly (and, e.g., James Taylor and Joni Mitchell) needs big time alone in their studios and other ateliers away from their fans, to create more art. This is not "unfriendly"; in fact, over Carly's career she has overcome her near paralyzing performance anxiety to thrust herself onto big forum stages, directly personally to perform before large audiences, often personalizing her lyrics and improv to them. Too she has given many uncommonly candid interviews to broadcast hosts and print journalists. Add to this her having raised sola two successful singer songwriter children, she has "evolved" uncommonly high, into a talent manifesting stratosphere far above most people.
