Lyrics:
Baby sneezes
Mommy pleases
Daddy breezes in
So good on paper
So romantic
But so bewildering
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again
So don't mind if I fall apart
There's more room in a broken heart
You pay the grocer
You fix the toaster
You kiss the host goodbye
Then you break a window
Burn the souffle
Scream a lullaby
I know nothing stays the same
But if you're willing to play the game
It's coming around again

@ Abba, Kate Bush, I watched and listened to them on tv as a child and was/am a big fan. Abba as a child and Kate Bush I learned to know better as a teenager and in my twenty’s. Just like The police and a lot of other great 70s and 80s music. Blondie, there’s many fans, but not me. Don’t ask me why, taste is so specific. I was more into soul, dance, heavy bass, later on into psytrance and techno. I watched Control, the movie about Joy Division. My heart broke, I love their music but my mood has to be good to be able to listen to them. I never liked punk music cause I prefer harmony. But I liked their message. Oh man there’s so much more excellent music that lifts us up, I myself love to sing 🎤

Takes me back to 1987. My Mum and Dad had broken up the year previous. Life went on. I was 13 years old. This song came on the radio yesterday and it took me back all those years ago and I just felt sad. I’m nearly 50 now, very happy in life with a beautiful wife and son. So how does such a sad feeling come over me hearing a song from 37 years ago?

Because this song is clearly about breaking up and trying again. It is sad that people break up at all and have to try again after making a lifetime commitment. And Carly is so richly melancholy in this song; it is a very melancholy situation 😒 laced with a little bit of hope. I am in my second marriage and this song makes me both sad... and glad.

i just turned 43 a week ago, and this song randomly popped into my head and i had to listen to it again! It is a remarkably beautiful song, and indeed, they sure don't release music like this anymore. I remember getting ready for school while Mom got ready for work and hearing this on the stereo along with other awesome 80's songs like "broken wings" (mister miser) or "Caught up in the rapture" (Anita Baker).

I see my parental house so vivid before my eyes, dancing with mum and my sister. Cuddle with dad and make funny jokes. Just a simple and happy life. What an epic song, it still sounds as fresh as it did all those years ago. Her vocals from 2:35 mins onwards are outstanding, and the harmonies and backing vocals are just simply mindblowing. This song is a masterpiece, and it just gets better with age, as you really do appreciate the lyrics etc. Carly Simon is without doubt one of the finest artists and songwriters to come out of the 70's. Total respect to her. ✊🙏👏👏👏

I love this song so much...makes me cry every time I hear it. It’s so true. Relationships have there ups and downs and if you ever loved your mate, it never truly dies and it does come around again. The flame may seem only an ember but the winds of time will breath life into it and it will become a flame once again if we stick with it.... I guess it’s just another aspect of the human condition and many do not have the patience to wait it out. I too have been there. Love is supposed to be patient and kind but we get caught up in wanting everything our way and wanting it now and the greener grass looks so much better. Your music was the soundtrack of my school years in the 70’s. . ...much love and admiration, Carly 💖💖💖.

I feel ya, bro. I was born in 80. They were the most idyllic, simple, and optimistic times. As a child living in the Middle East around 1987, I can remember riding in my dad's car through a vast desert, the sun setting, my mom's cassette of this coming through the speakers, and feeling like the moment was going on forever. I'm a tatted-up 42-year-old now, a fan of 100s of 1000s of different songs from across endless genres, and sometimes I wander back into this nostalgic space to feel safe and hopeful again. Especially in the crazy world, life, and time of the modern era.

I remember the first time I heard this. It was an instant hit in my mind. It has that sort of circular rhythm that makes you feel you could put it on endless repeat. You fall into the song, the melody, the words. And who else but Carly Simon would sing "burn the soufflé"? No one. From her first single ("That's the Way I've Always Heard It Should Be"), she established herself as a singularly unique artist. I've loved her songs through the years. And in this video, she was at the peak of her beauty. I wish she could just freeze herself in time and forever write songs and make videos and give us "all the feels." If you ever see this Carly, just know you have fans that have followed you from day one and are still with you.

What happened to music and movies in general?... the soul seems so missing thesedays. Too much realism. What these artists understood is you have to carve a space in the music that is unresolved. If music doesn't do that, I wouldn't call it music it's just sound.

I bought this CD when I was in the Navy in 87. I won a CD player in a radio contest and a gift certificate from The Wherehouse. Always been a fan of Carly's music. I loved the music arrangement and the prose back then. But the older I get I see the positivity of it. Nothing stays the same, you hit those really rough patches but if you both hang in there, you'll remember you love each other. Love grows....
