CarMax CAN'T SOLVE These TWO PROBLEMS With My New Ford F-250

My 2018 Ford F-250 is an absolute workhorse, my daily driver, and a rolling check engine light. The check engine light is typically intermittent (until today that is) making it extremely hard for CarMax to fix it with the bumper to bumper warranty I bought with the truck. The last time I took it in they tried to fix the extremely common Ford death wobble, but the fix was really a bandaid that kept it from getting as wild as some do. We're going to knock out the maintenance, then it's off to CarMax to try and fix these issues again!

Your death wobble is due to slight play in your track bar ball joint. At my shop we service all Ford Superdutys and I can’t tell you how many we replace from this issue. Often times it’s a slight front end shimmy other times the truck is out of control at 65-70 mph. Replace it with an OE part and you will be good for another 30k. Hope this helps out. Love the videos, killing it with the new shop! Can’t wait to see you hit a million subscribers👊🏽

I have the 2019 Ford F350. I had the death wobble. I took it to a shop that specializes in off road parts and lifts. They tested it and found that it was the drag link. @@kt5645 Yeah I have an 150.000 mile warranty, but Ford can't figure it out. Ford is replacing the steering damper and that's not the problem. Plus when I took it to the dealer, I was told that when they test drive the truck and it doesn't wobble, I don't have that issue. So I took it to someone who said they can definitely fix the problem and they did.

My 41 military 1/2 ton power wagon pickup had a death wobble but probably not exactly the same as the new Ford diesels have. You'd hit about 35mph and the front tires would start hard core bouncing. I had a friend drive it while I was in another truck in front. The front tires actually bounced in and out visably. I could tighten it up by making sure the steering arm on the top of the axle was screwed down tight but it would come back. I finally managed to find 40 year old new front end top and bottom brass bushings for it. They later went to heavy duty bearings and I guess they are like king pins or whatever. It never did it again and even tracked straight. It was a huge job to do them seeing how they are built like a mini tank with huge parts and everything had to come off the ends of the axles to do it.

That dpf error won't stop occuring until you replace the the fuel pump, it's also the reason your down on power. I am able to spin my tires with ease on accident, but when i started having issues, that was my first sign the loss of power. Because it is actually seeing the particulates the sensor claims it is seeing. Beware of the Bosch CP4 pump failure, convert it to the CP3 pump, before it destroys your entire fuel system, talk to any diesel shop, they're very familiar with this conversion, CP4s are ticking time bombs, even if they fix it under warranty, they'll just be reinstalling the CP4 when it fails :-(

JR has the right idea with the warranty on this truck, you'll go broke if you have to pay to get it serviced/fixed. Pretty much true of any 2007+ emissions era diesel. I'm convinced that the gas engines are the way to go on new/newer trucks if you plan to keep it/drive it into the ground. Ford and Chevy have introduced new big displacement gas engines that are pretty damn nice(and economical, saw a review where they got 14mpg tooling around town unloaded in a 4wd F350). A lot of fleets have replaced their older heavy duty diesel trucks with gassers in the past few years as well.

Good video. The other thing that can cause the death wobble is if the power steering is the electronic power steering. The centering position sensor can get a false reading and it tries to center the steering and causes the death wobble. If your code reader is hooked up at the time it happens or you pull over right after it happens and check the codes you might get lucky and see the code. Of course as you said it could be a suspension component also. Every brand of HD truck can have this same issue.

About the oil you use. For my diesel Toyota with a DPF, you have to use a DPF compatible engine oil. If you don't, Toyota say it can cause DPF failure, which will not be covered under warranty. I'm a truck driver my take on diesel additives is to use hot shot secret sticktion Eliminator to clean the soot deposits on any lubricated parts like it will unstick stuck lifters or stuck wrings The way I take care of the fuel system is to get power service clear diesel and just this one removes bugs that coat the tank after that what ever you prefer to treat water ? I had a Brazilian 1975 Jeep Willys (sold in Brazil by Ford) in line 6 CJ5 that had serial killer level of death wabble. No joke. Also had a monumental steering wheel play so trying to control it was a nightmare. I sold that death trap 20 years ago and never been around a Jeep since. 10/10 would do it again.

Don't feel bad. My 2019 Silverado High Country with 6.2 liter gas and 13,000 miles has its gremlins too. Mine invole the infotainment system and driver side temperature control knob. Sometimes they just don't work. Turning truck off and on again and they work! It also has an intermittent stalling problem when sifting from reverse to drive. I keep waiting for a new software update to fix them.

The death wobble is because of the castor angle put a shim in both sides of the axle to add one full degree of angle for the Castor on the axle. The will fix the death wobble. Also ford has the solid axle set up to best optimize low-speed turning with trailers or without. Powerstrokehelp has video on the death wobble.

One of the things that will throw a DPF sensor code like you were describing is a leak in the exhaust. The DPF system on my semi goes nuts with the smallest leak. With these new modern systems, the old rules concerning diesel exhaust kind of go out the window. As for your injector tick problem, it sounds like you may have an injector that's losing a little Prime. Regardless, it's still a beautiful truck and I've seen it in person and it looks just as good in person

I've been a brake/suspension technician for the the last 12 years and we get a new super duty death wobble customer almost weekly. In my experience it tends to start showing up around 50k miles. Usually the drag link and steering stabilizer are all that need replaced but every truck (and driver) is different.

@AkioWasRight

People misunderstand the issues with death wobble. It's not a design issue that needs figuring out, it's simply a matter of wear and tear and the nature of a solid front axle. You basically have two wheels attached to a solid beam, but there are a hundred tiny, fragile components that control and stabilize those wheels. If any one of these little parts fails, whether it be due to wear and tear or road damage, you will have problems.

@AkioWasRight 3 жыл бұрын
@@Vr6.christos They don't just come at 20k miles. If something happed in the 20k miles that damaged something in the front end, then you might get death wobble. And it could be at any miles. I've seen it time and time again. It doesn't just happen. It's either due to wear or damage. You could hit a pothole tomorrow and start noticing it, or you could drive the thing for 120k miles, wear it out, and then start noticing it. Like any part, things break or wear out, but wobble is just nature of a solid front axles when they are worn or broken. What's more, no brand or design is immune. Rams have these issues. Jeeps have these issues. Previous designs from Ford had these issues. Older Toyotas and Chevys had these issues. Again, it's just the nature of the beast. When something is worn or damaged on a solid front end, you could have death wobble.

My brother has a 2015 F-350 turbodiesel. So far, no death wobble. His urea injection system failed, putting the truck into limp home mode. With that, you get 45 miles at 35mph max. After that the truck shuts down and won't start again until the issues are fixed. The Ford dealer in Whitehorse, Yukon said the repair would be $10,000 or removing the system for $2,000. Luckily he has the Ford extended warranty. The warranty covered the cost of removing the system and the truck runs much better. He is just lucky the truck ran into problems when it did. Another hour up the road heading home to Faro, a 5 hour trip, they would have needed to activate the maritime rescue beacon to be rescued by the Canadian Armed Forces, as traffic between Whitehorse and Faro is virtually nonexistent. That kind of thing makes me question the safety factor. Oh, and in winter he runs 0W40 full synthetic as the temperature drops to -50 or below. Now the Ford dealer has to figure out how to keep antifreeze from freezing at that temperature. Gun and games with new vehicles.

I don’t know if it is still the case but my friend worked at Carmax 7 years ago the only repair they would do is factory authorized repairs. Something about liability and such. Carmax bought the car back within a year. So don’t hold your breath for repairs
