@From the Shadows Emerges... I guess I just don't like the way AJ treated his mom. I really hate Carmela and I know Meadow did her fair share of disobeying too, but AJ rarely showed affection for his mother and disrespected her. Although there is the underlying issue of how AJ consciously knows his family's life can only exist off the blood of innocents, but from a superficial level AJ was always the most annoying.
@slgordon33 жыл бұрын
@You tuber very interesting! Personally I think AJ and Meadow both became very irritating as the show went on. I think the writers felt a duty at the end of the show how destructive Tony’s existence is-to his family, to the world-so that we understand he should not be glamorized. Remember that truckload of asbestos that got dumped in the marshes because Tony was too selfish and lazy to deal with it? I think the writers wanted to show that he also did that with his family. AJ was another casualty of Tony and his shitty choices.
@CanoeToNewOrleans3 жыл бұрын
@You tuber I was going to ask in this thread why AJ is so disliked but then I read your comment. Well explained.
@steverogers76013 жыл бұрын
I’ll never understand this and I honestly feel like it’s “broken” or misguided people themselves who are the ones making these kind of comments. What was the worse thing AJ’s done in this show? Lie to his mother? Smoke pot? He pretty much did what MOST of us did when we were younger. We all lied, did dumb sht, rebelled against what our parents told us to do, lashed out because we didn’t know how to process the emotions we felt. We broke stuff, cursed at others, got into fights because it was our way of feeling like we had some kind of control of our lives. AJ did that too yet somehow he gets trashed MORE than literal sociopaths, murderers, manipulators and all around terrible people in Tony, Paulie, Christopher, Ralph etc. It’s like grown man-children getting a hard-on for trashing the idea of a kid coming from a fucked up family, and those same man-children more than likely came from a messed up family themselves.

I believe part of the reason why Tony was so reluctant to take care of A.J. was because of the extra burden of stuff he's got to keep an eye on and worry about. But I think truly it was mostly he wanted A.J. to be a good kid and not walk the same path he did. With Carmela there was a higher chance he could live a somewhat normal life and not get drawn in to Tony's way of life.

It just flabbergasts me the way Gandolfini and Falco (which interestingly just autocorrected to Garbo) could infuse a fictional history of their relationship so fully into every moment if their screentime. Kudos to the writers too who gave them the platform.

It's a real shame what Meadow became in the end of the last season Meadow was a very tragic character. AJ was starting to get his life together and buckle down in the end, while Meadow was training herself to be corrupt.
@christiandouyon97394 жыл бұрын
I think Jackie Jr dying damaged her too deeply. The way she blindly denies her family's criminal ties to her third boyfriend ( the dentist Finn ) is proof of that. She's smarter than Aj but uses her education to rationalize everything however reprehensible. I agree, if the show kept going further in the show I could easily see Aj going straight honest simple life while Meadow turns into a female version of Tony, using her diplomas and job to gain more power for herself.
@happycompy3 жыл бұрын
@@christiandouyon9739 well said. I never thought of it like that before. Meadow's transformation throughout the series is indeed quite tragic. AJ's suicide attempt was pretty rough to watch too.

I like how the Characters in the sopranos develop. Its also interesting that the flaws of each individual become projected onto their children or each other. Ie: Tony jumping to conclusions of his son having,”weird sex!” But he does the same damn thing. Unconditional love is rare in the mob but the ties are strong.

This is one of the few times I actually think Tony is 100 percent correct. A couple of beers is normal teenage shit and his eyebrows will grow back. And yeah, she's his mother. It's different. It's not that sons don't love their mother, it's just that mothers are often overbearing and that can be frustrating to teenage boys.

At 00:30 Hollywood writers today would write a character in tonys shoes like "OH MY GOD, YOURE EYEBROWS??? HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN!?" as soon as tony saw AJ. But in the sopranos, the subtle "whats different about you?" then carmela pointing out its his eyebrows is such good subtle dialogue that explains so much about the character. This show keeps getting better after every viewing i swear.

AJ thinking that it would be cool to live with his dad. This brings me back memories. My parents lived seperatly for a summer when i was AJ's age, after behaving stupidly a couple of times i was supposed to be living with my dad for a couple of weeks, i went "oh great!" like AJ. First weekend we went to a restaurant had a great meal i'm thinking "oh great" once again after a couple of days it turned out to be hell, i remember my dad giving me shit cause me, a kid did not know how the washer and the dishwasher worked, i immediately went to live with my grand parents till i could go to live back with my mom again. Believe me I behaved well all summer long 😀
