Carmelo Anthony can virtually score on anyone at anytime. Melo was 6'8", 235 pounds. He just cannot be stopped in the post. He has a very quick first step off the dribble. He has a spin away dribble, explosive left hand dribble, post up fade away jump shot, turn around jump shot, spin around up and under move, and a lethal drop step or jab step dribble. He has the size, strength, excellent footwork to get inside the lane and score. He is probably the most fundamentally skilled basketball player in the NBA. Kobe Bryant once said that Anthony is more difficult to guard compared to LeBron James.

If he started his career in today's NBA and he can increase his stability as a spot-up shooter, this man can seriously dominate... Thing with Melo is that he always played with other superstars who were just as much a defensive liability as he was. i.e. Iverson in Denver, and Amare @ Knicks. So even when his teams were good, they never could make it past the 2nd round. Also playing in an era where SF evolved to PF or even C, and where players in his position had to guard multiple position didn't help him at all. Melo is still a HOF, but his legacy could have been painted in a different color had he just been playing for the right organisation, surrounded by right players.

do people realize the difficulty level here. Every skill is probably a thousand hours of gym time. The balance, coordination, touch, power...sheesh. Just pulling up off the dribble so fast to get into your form and shoot a high quality shot...look at spot up shooters, JJ Redick, Kyle Korver, you really have a special special player who can take people off the dribble, high post, low post, mid-range, 3 point, spin moves, cross-overs - it's mindboggling.

I don't think he's bad as people think he is, Melo is very strong, skillful, a good shooter, and overall a great offensive player and his defense isn't that bad. Remember in 2009 (i think that was the year) was the time when he battled Kobe and a good lakers team with all his heart, that series earned many people's respect. I have to admit that he may be inefficient and a ballhog sometimes but we can't ignore how great he was. Also people need to give him a break, he's old.
