LeBron is a pure scorer who just so happens to also be freakishly athletic. He came into the league with a slightly below average jumper, but could get hot from anywhere. From 2004-2008, he added post scoring, post fades, runners, leaners, and improved his 3 pt shooting. People only say hes not a pure scorer because a lot of his points come at the rim (35% of his fg attempts are at the rim , while the other 65% consists of midrange and 3 point shootig.) People get blinded by the dunks and fast breaks but ignore the fact that in a majority of his high scoring games come from being automatic with his jumpers. People claim he has no bag, but for every move they say a kobe or kd can do, LeBron can also do it. Lets also add in the fact that layups and getting to the rim requires you to have a bag. There were many players LeBrons size or bigger who struggle around the rim. He has jelly layups, reverse layups, contact layups with both hands. Just his layup package alone is enough of a bag that he consistently makes 70-80% of his finishes at the rim regardless of the type of defenders waiting at the rim (ibaka, garnett, noah, deight howard etc). There isn't one way to consistently stop him. Make him go left, he is ambidextrous, he can finish with a fade, a leaner , right handed floater, do a step back or finish with his left at the rim make him go right, hes dunking on you, doing a finger roll over you and your center, fading away or pulling up. Give him space he's 35-40% from 3 depending on the season. Put a smaller guy on him, he posts them up. Put a bigger guy on him , he blows past them. He isnt seen as a pure scorer because of his athleticism and passing overshadows his skilled play

He’s not gonna use an assortment of feints or dribbles. I’d say the same for Zion, Greek, Shaq, Brunson. Shit if anything these guys not only get it done but they’re usually more efficient. @greg27978 ай бұрын
To Melo's point I think he really was just talking about how people interpret or view things. Technically speaking Bron is a all time great scorer. He can go get a bucket whenever he wants. But its the way that he does it that is why people don't put LOOK at him as a scorer. He is going to call some pick and rolls and get a better matchup, or just sprint downhill and either blow past you or physically move you out the way. Its kinda how people don't view Shaq as a scorer even tho he could get you a bucket whenever too. Shaq used more power and strength. And even tho Shaq had a hook shot and a bit of a turnaround shot just like even tho Bron has a fadeaway shot over the left and right shoulder and floaters, and pull up jumpers, most of their buckets aren't from that so it doesn't look as "pretty" or "pure" as how a KD or Booker gets their buckets. Kinda silly but I get why people think that way. Shaq is a way more efficient scorer than a.i. and can give you just as many buckets as him but people still will look at a.i. as a more pure scorer. It's an aesthetic or style as Melo puts it. Being a pure scorer doesn't make you a better scorer
@agwiz27778 ай бұрын
I get what you’re saying but bron’s more of a hybrid, like if i were to compare highlights reels of the all timers i can assure you not many would even come close to brons in terms of high level plays & even style, so the whole “bron don’t have a bag” thing is either wishful thinking or recency bias which is completely reasonable since theres been like 5 to 6 versions/iterations of bron 😂; also people in general need to get their shit together cause reducing skills & fundamentals to a beauty contest where style & aesthetics is the main argument is ridiculous, like reggie miller’s shooting form was horrendous but was mechanically sound so “looks great” doesn’t mean its great, same goes for equating “deeper bag” to more skill is complete nonsense & pure fan service, sure, sometimes it does overlap, where you get both, beauty & high level skill, kyrie irving probably being the best example of it, but equating them is wrong & we’ve come to a point where even pro players are regurgitating & reinforcing this notion(narrative).
@greg27978 ай бұрын
@@agwiz2777 yea I was just breaking down what Melo meant but I agree. But even Melo seemed to catch himself because he realized Bron doesn’t fit in what he was trying to say. towards the end he concluded that a “pure scorer” is about the style in which you score and doesn’t make you a better scorer. So while Kyrie for instance would be considered a pure scorer because he does it in an esthetically pleasing way, he is not a better scorer than Shaq. As much as that may bother people it’s facts.

Take away the baseline he was either going to put a move on you and still go baseline or rise up and shoot over you. In transition he was taking the ball into the paint if you clogged the paint he pulled up with a midrange and on occasion the 3 ball. He would jump over you driving to the hole. He would adjust in mid air from the right to the left and still score. All one had to do was look at Melo from head to toe and you would know he knows who the greatest is!!!

The spacing and pace of the NBA game is a cheat code for Bron because he’s the most physically gifted player EVER! He is not, however, a great one on one player, but that’s not how championships are won. He elevates others like only few others before him. A pure scorer is a guy who can literally score from anywhere on the floor in any facet of the game. A scorer is just a player who scores their respective points in concentrated areas. Scorers Example is Shaq, Giannis, Kareem, Duncan, LeBron, Wade, and DRose. Pure Scoring Examples: Bird, Kobe, Melo, TMac, KD, Steph, PG, Paul Pierce, etc.

Melo talking about the players that have/could have his bag and he said he had to learn the stuff that people don’t see from other legends of the game. In my opinion one guy that could be in that upper echelon is Jabari Smith Jr. Just a young pup and he has the potential. Just my thoughts. Respect. StayMe7o

LeBron Is A Scorer. But It Also Depends On What LeBron You Talking About. Example: First Cleveland Run He Was Pure Scorer, He Played A lot Of ISO Ball But Miami LeBron Is Pure Fast Breaks Not To Say He Didn’t Have His Games But That Team Was A Threat Because Of The Fast Break Opportunities They Got.
