I bumped into Ms Graves on Broad Street in Philadelphia. Recognizing her I spoke. She was very gracious and engaged in a brief conversation. The following week I went to see her in a performance of La pericole (I hope I spelled it correctly. With a great voice, beauty and attitude, she has become one of my favorites.

I saw Denyce Graves live on stage in the 1990s. I loved her Carmen. She remained the best Carmen I’d ever seen until Anita Rachvelishvili came along in 2017 and blew every other Carmen right out of the water.

This brings back great memories. It must be from 1995 when I saw the identical cast at the Met. Only the bass Mr. Bernstein is still singing at the Met, though Ms. Graves occasionally returns for character roles. The tenor has sadly passed, way too young. Thanks for posting!

Another tragic premature loss. His voice filled the round of the theatre as few do nowadays.

She has a lovely and strong voice, but... her interpretation of the role is poor and she does not articulate words well. Sloppy singing, too throaty, cannot hear the words. It should be clear as a bell. The bartione guy singing Escamillo, was good.
