I hate that despite how absolutely fantastic this is, Disney could never have the creativity or care to create a movie with a vulnerable, kind hearted and fragile prince, who instead of being a strong man straight away, he goes on a journey to discover what it means to be strong - and that doesn't mean not showing emotions, or winning over the girl, or having an impressive body. Give me a soft Elsa prince who cares about his family and longs to find his true self rather than bottling up his emotions inside like he's "expected" to do as a future king/leader/man. I feel like if Disney could pull off a movie like that, it'd be so influencial on so many boys who believe that being a man means holding back your emotions and not saying how you really feel other than aggression, because for some reason "sadness = weakness".

I'd rather a male protagonist with a plotline more like frozen's, about self discovery and acceptance, because a man showing his emotions in mainstream media is well overdue, but a Disney prince as a protagonist is a Disney prince nevertheless, and it would be great.

Firstly, Idina Menzel's voice brought down to a lower "male" pitch still retains her beautiful, airy, and clear head voice which is so prominent in this song, not even to mention her strong and unmatched chest voice. Which then becomes an extraordinary falsetto full of emotion you often don't see from male singers, as it is quite difficult to achieve and control. Secondly, the presentation of a Prince Elsa, a young man searching for his sense of identity, has only been portrayed by Disney once before in Hercules. But even in that movie, it doesn't even begin to compare to the amount of pride, happiness, relief, that you feel through this animatic and song. You feel everything that the character would be feeling. This artist has truly done something remarkable. From reading other comments as well as obviously experiencing it for myself, the artist has shown how important it is to have this kind of representation in our media to young kids, especially boys. Having never had a character like this in my childhood memory, except perhaps Simba maybe, I can just say personally I would be much better off had I been able to see a character like this in a Disney film. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

Disney is going in the right direction by making strong female characters who don’t need a man to save them or protect them, but now they need to take another step and make emotionally vulnerable princes who learn to be strong and go on journeys of self discovery, not necessarily a weak becomes strong trope but just self expression, emotions, acceptance, relief, sadness, everything that princesses usually get, let the boys see that they can be a strong prince who can save the day, but it’s ok if they need saving every so often as well, that it’s ok for them to be emotional, it’s ok to not know who they are yet. Legalize boys learning to become men through means of emotional awareness and being comfortable in expressing those emotions.

Edit: Lovely video! Should have said that already. Disney, you have 10 years to give me a human prince trying to figure himself out without the help of a love interest or I'll make myself. I'll wait.

I would really like to have a movie that portrayed a prince as sensitive, emotional, and caring. Someone we could relate to
@imnotmarkimoo26204 жыл бұрын
The reason why Disney doesn’t have lots of male leading characters is because they weren’t in demand. Especially in the beginning of disney. It was explained by one of the first few upper workers in the Walt Disney company that little girls everywhere were obsessed with princesses (still are) and that’s why the majority are female lead or have some princess/leading figure
@aduckinlingerie4 жыл бұрын
I'm Not Markimoo yeah I feel like having a prince in the lineup would kinda defeat the purpose of the strong powerful woman (well more so now) theme. But I am so for a movie more centered around how it’s ok for guys to show “weakness” or emotions.

AL_emonade Agree, unfortunately it just wouldn’t make money for them and as you know big companies have the bigger view of those money signs than anything

I also think it was cause sexism was still really high when Disney started, so having girls as main characters helped people do less of that
@imnotmarkimoo26204 жыл бұрын
Origami Ashoka I’m actually not too sure about that, because we didn’t have any strong female leads for awhile.
@aduckinlingerie4 жыл бұрын
I'm Not Markimoo agree but just the idea of a female lead was enough I guess?
