Astra electric power steering pump will not disappoint and then run the turbo header over the alternator. Will end up better for everything involved imo. Also a custom made plenum top rear entry style would look sexy!

Bigger turbo and bigger boost area by way of turbo piping running from the back. And he runs all the boost. Definitely gains to be had by the replacement intake when not going to the extreme. And I was pretty sure it was using coils not stock ignition.

I was coming here to suggest an Astra electric pump, and that I can send you the one I have as I am not using it, as I have decided to go EPAS from a Kia Cerato. However, after reading all the comments I see that you are not keen on the Astra pumps due to the noise and current draw. Maybe look into an EPAS rack conversion or even on the column? Would be a great conversion to do, and show the viewers that you don't need to spend megabucks on getting EPAS to work. As for "Scotty is not a teenager anymore" when you were thinking about pulling the drivers seat out to get access to the booster, I know where you are coming from mate!!!! I've got just under 6 months to go before I hit the big six oh, getting up and down off the floor when working on cars ain't as easy as it used to be!! Keep the great content flowing, and the double entendre and dad jokes coming!!!

Hey Scotty, Al and Woody have used Subaru boosters on a few projects as they are smaller diameter. What about old school HT leads and remote coils. It won't look as pretty, but there will be more clearance and there won't be a problem with the power goals you have. Also could you lower the mounts and/or notch the K frame to get more clearance with the bonnet etc?

Are you able to flip the driver's side manifold and run a rear crossover pipe? Will solve the alternator/powersteering clearance issue, aswell as keep some of the hot piping away from the inlet side of the engine bay. Good to see the stock intake manifold back on there, certainly isnt going to hold you back any whatsoever, the juice simply wasnt worth the squeeze in this case for aesthetics.

I used to have a HQ, but the booster was from a HT, if memory serves. It was longer and much smaller in diameter.
@commodorenut
@commodorenut 11 ай бұрын
There was 1 particular HK/T/G booster that was smaller in diameter as you have noted. It was also used on the XU1 & A9X. HDT also used the dual diaphragm version of this on the 5.6L stroker cars, like my Brock wagon, as they produced more boost from less vacuum than the VK/VL boosters. At 9” diaphragm diameter, it is significantly smaller in diameter than the original HQ-WB boosters Holden used which are 11”. I did some checking, and the VB-VR boosters are 9” as well, so this won’t help Scotty unfortunately. Watching the video part way through, I was thinking the shallower plastic VS one might have been short enough to clear, but turns out it wasn’t. No point trying the VT onwards ones - they are almost as big in diameter where it matters for that coil. The hard part with any replacement booster is having the right fit-up orientation for the master cylinder, so you can retain it (and avoid many hassles with engineering, and having to fit bias adjusters and other crap if you can’t find a master cylinder that matches the original front & rear bore sizes). This was where HDT were clever, as that “special” booster only needed a custom firewall bracket, and took the normal VL 1” master. While there are a myriad of smaller diameter booster options out there, most, if not all, won’t be an easy fit without numerous other changes.

Just a thought.... Going up is a problem. Just come on a mental frolic for a moment... What if you channel the lower manifold and have the centre of the throttle body dropped by say 100mm. Of course you'd then have to close the top too. I'm thinking about the clearance *under* the lower manifold allowing a fabricated round section say 125mm wide, to which you could attach the throttle body. It will change the air flow to go from low then up into the runners, but air bends well, as seen in LS3 manifolds. Just ideas, I don't have the car in front of me let alone the TIG skill needed.
