Despite its inaccuracies, I still enjoyed this film nonetheless. Interesting to see medieval feudal warfare against to that of the late 19th century foreshadowing WWI. I got chills from seeing the last scene when the army brought out the gatling guns, metaphorically and literally killing off ancient warfare and life.

Anyone else at least a tad bit depressed at the invention of guns? I mean, a whole way of life, training, all of it gone from one invention. It's like a chunk of history was erased the changes were so drastic.

Less loss of life in war when you don't need a mass of sword trained men to fight, quicker and more precise killing, quickly eliminate the need for a mass field of combat and death of your own men, feels like an ok trade to me, not to mention the fact that it takes much less time to train to use a gun, then to fight properly with a sword

This movie is kinda historically inaccurate tho. Japanese people started using guns way back in Sengoku period before Americans came, and lords in particular (like Oda Nobunaga) love using them the most. The samurais led by Katsumoto, who refused to use even guns, were the extreme type of samurais which were probably non-existent during that era in Japan.

​@@wzx6x6z6w The movies inspired by the true events of Satsuma Rebellion led by Saigo Takamori. Yep, historically saigo's men also use guns, but using the outdated matchlock/tanegashima, until they ran out of ammo in the final battle and use sword until the last men.
