Watching you from Hong Kong. I’m still struggling with the piano. For about 8 years of learning I’m still not making any progress. I feel like giving up. I enjoy your videos and they give me hope . Thank you

You mustn't give up! I've been struggling at it for over forty years and it's only now in this last year after discovering this particular channel on KZbin that everything is starting to come together. There are loads of piano tutoring channels on KZbin and for the most part they are all great but a lot of them are pretentious or expect you to have some pre-existing knowledge of piano or music theory; whereas Jason breaks it all down simply, naturally and in a way that is easy to understand. I've learned so much from watching this guy that I feel guilty that I haven't pressed the KZbin join button yet or subscribed to the Patreon, but I will be doing that real soon. If you're struggling it might be prudent to sign up for one of the structured courses at Nathaniel and learn in a more systematic and chronological way, but whatever you do; don't give up, one day you will hopefully have that epiphany like I did and it will all start to come together. Jason did this video about intervals for chord progressions the other day kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHuzoohqYtGjna8&ab_channel=JasonZac-NathanielSchoolofMusic and from one of the exercises in that lesson; using each major chord triad going around the circle of 5ths in degrees of fifths, I finally after all of this time managed to learn all of the 12 major chord triads; their shapes on the fingers and their inversions. So that's 36 shapes, I've practiced it everyday since that video came out and it's pretty much in the mind and muscle memory now, and I can't even begin quantify the benefit of just being able to jump to a chord, in whatever inversion, without thinking about it; I've just got to learn the 36 minor chords now but it shouldn't be too difficult because we already know that only one note (the 3rd) needs to change to go from major to minor; the root and the fifth will always be the same. Knowing all the scales is important but this particular lesson has taught me that knowing all of the chords and their inversions is arguably even more important.

Thanks very much, Jason. Very interesting & refreshing for my Western ears. Looking forward to the next part. I am intrigued by the revelation that augmenting and diminishing of scale degrees is a common feature although it is obviously more developed here. This really is a whole new perspective.

Jason this is very interesting art form. This is all new to me sounds very interesting but it also seems there is a lot of history behind this also . Do you recommend any books or music to dive into this music more. Ty

Thanks Robert. Will recommend resources as and when I find them. The little I've learnt is from the amazing local musicians pretty much while jamming!
