I totally endorse the views expressed by RAGA. Singing the praise of a person who hit lord Rama's picture with chappals and placing a chappals garland around the picture...and then singing a composition of Saint Thyagayya who sang his heart out in praise of his idol Rama...is hypocrisy of the highest order. You want to spread carnatic music to the common man ? Do it. Welcome. The carnatic fraternity will be with you . But not by vilifying a community or their Gods and Goddesses.

As one who has been listening to the concerts of stalwarts of carnatic music for the last 6 decades or so -- since my childhood days, I'm frankly appaled at the decision of the Music Academy to honour this gentleman (??) with a sangeeta Kalanidhi . Is he not the same guy who used the most obscene, obnoxious and absolutely despicable language while speaking about the legendary Bharat Ratna MS amma. Should we music lovers be punished in this manner to witness this same shameless character be honoured with a Sangeeta Kalanidhi. Although ,I no longer live in madras, I do visit the city during December- January for the music festival. Mark my words, thus year's. Music Academy season will be A TOTAL WASHOUT, with nearly every leading musician opting out.

The Music Academy of Madras is an august body whose stature over the ages derives from the approbation of thousands of Carnatic Music rasikaas but if it acts from the egos of a few in the Administration, then there's no option but to take back the stamp of approval and start a new Academy to preserve the rich tradition and standards of Carnatic Music. We must isolate the casteist and anarchic elements and run our own Academy. Saint Theagaraya's atma deserves this move.
