I suppose that by now someone's 'splained the difference between supercharging and mechanical scavenging. Detroit Diesels like this, being mechanically scavenged, have that service provided by the Roots blower. Any supercharging would be purely accidental. FWIW some Cleveland Diesels (locomotive engines, much bigger) are turbocharged, having crankshaft driven scavenging blowers to run at low speed/power to get them up & going.

The Cizeta didn't have a central gearbox - it's a central flywheel and power takeoff to avoid flex from having a too-long crankshaft. The gearbox took power from this central point, but it was definitely not a "central gearbox, with a V8 on either side of it..." as there is no way you could fit two V8s _and_ a gearbox within the width of even a ridiculously-wide car like this (remember, the "T" in V16T stands for "transverse" - the engine is sideways across the car.) The gearbox was just behind the engine in the usual position.

Your bad research, or complete lack there of, gets an F minus as a grade. The Twin Six in the first clip has not been available since the late '40s as surplus; the straight six SC diesels it is made from have been out of production since the mid"60s- you can get a gasket set from specialty mfgs, but even pistons are made to order. Panhard as a brand died before 1960, no whole engines or parts available except through specialty brokers. The 427 SOHC engine in the clip was built by Ford to compete at NASCAR against the MOPAR Hemis- not in production since 1969, and even then only a few hundred ever made- the Kasse engine you refer to is from later model parts and has no kinship with it. You are correct- this video was shot through with errors, just not what you seem to think.

@lindamcentaffer59696 жыл бұрын
Aaaah the Wankel IS a Rotary. I think ya ought to EDUCATE yourself in this field! The only ROTARY engines used in airplanes, was in the World War 1 era, where the RADIALLY arrainged engine"s CRANKSHAFT was actually bolted to the firewall via a flange on the aft end of the crank, while the engine ROTATED around the crank shaft. The French made Gnome was a prevalent brand then, and the type was known as a ....ROTARY! The more modern types of "Radial - cylindered" engines, where the crank case is bolted to the firewall, HAS BEEN since around 1920, called a RADIAL engine. The Wankel has, because it's crank shaft is "weird," as long as I can remember, always been called a ROTARY. I have gray hair, and you're the first supposed "authority" in the field of engines I have ever seen get confused over this issue. Advice: when many people say you're wrong, research and learn. Then, ya MAN UP & admit it. Much more respectable that way.

@aussiebloke6093 жыл бұрын
He's ignorant. This is a simple radial engine. Mind you, there were radial engines that were referred to as rotary (before the Wankel design started using the term), but in those cases, "rotary" meant that the entire radial engine spins on a stationary crankshaft. It's an old idea that made it onto a few aircraft - biplanes, if memory serves - and the design didn't last long because the design limits RPM significantly.
