Imagine if some random hero characters arrived at the supposed place of the final battle where they finally defeat a monstrous villain. They see nothing, but void. They prepare to fight back... but then they see something scarier then any final boss. As this song starts playing, something worse then any disaster slowly appears in the void, causing the heroes to scream... a red and white-checkered barrel, moving up... and down.

I think this is the most iconic of all Sonic levels. It is very different in its pacing, some parts much heavier on the platformer, even at times stopping you in your tracks (here's to you, spinning cylinders of annoyance!). This remix reverberates what Sonic music is and is meant to be: fast and fun. I really appreciate it. It's not nuanced in such a way that you'll miss something from the classic, but every extra spin (pun intended) is refreshing and energetic, which this level continues to be to me, even today. Nicely done!
