Why is everyone hating on this guy, yea he took it kinda slow, yea not EVERY SINGLE NOTE was hit and his tounging is not as clear as Bob McChesney but this was still a pretty fine performance. Anyone who disagrees needs to upload a video of them playing it better than this guy. If not Shut up.

This was extremely well done. Intonation on trombone is difficult, and this guy did a great job making sure at least his notes were in tune relative to each other. I love his own spin using glisses several times and adding some near grace notes in the main theme. Very good performance.

@@colintahbaz1292 no it's really not. In some areas the transcription has a few extra bits, but most of them are actually easier to do then the same part in the original. The last variation is SIGNIFICANTLY easier in the bob mcchesney version, so obviously bob is going to take it faster then anyone playing the original

Now imagine doing all that, except with a slide where it isn't just press or not press, where you need to make sure you get every inch of precision into your slide position, all the while maintaining good embouchure/posture. Not saying other instruments don't need precision, but when you actually feel the slide, you'll understand how much trombonists need to put into their tuning and intonation. Also carrying the whole trombone's weight on one shoulder is hard.

Also, every pitch has a pitch tendency. This makes every pitch either go flat or sharp of the standard position, so a trombonist needs to memorize every notes position. If you had ever played trombone you would know that. Know your shit before you come into a place and start making assumptions.
@TheAceCrusher12 жыл бұрын
It's actually not that simple. The trombone, though difficult, is always possible to be in tune. It's difficult and takes many years of training, but nonetheless it is possible. With other instruments, if one note is out of tune then the other notes don't sound quite as good. The trombone IS a tuning slide whereas other instruments have to adjust differently and specially to every single note. I've been playing clarinet my whole life and I play in the Chicago Symphony and I know this to be true.

I have to agree with some of the folks here. While I think its admirable to play this piece on trombone, the slide simply can't cope with the precision needed. Some of Arthur Pryor's solos are far more idiomatic to the trombone and sound just as virtuosic.

As a french horn and trumpet player i have to say that you are wrong. False tone can be given through ANY wind instrument with the position of your mouth and posture. Whether your lips are to low, high, not tight enough, not loose enough, or whether you are holding your horn at a certain angle, puffing cheeks or simply sitting up straight.You should not down any instrument because they are all difficult to play in their own way. Everything takes precision, whether its a slide or your embrochure.
