How are the spots under the boat that are hidden by the dry dock supports get painted? Do they jack up the boat and move the supports around to gain access to these parts of the hull?
@kd5you19 жыл бұрын

Probably not all rust, a lot of the paint gets stripped off and then primed and repainted. If they just kept paining over old layers it would get heavy and peel off, also cause drag.

@grulo10368 жыл бұрын
The triumph sails atleast 8 to 10 times a month and has since the engine enables fire problem was fixed. I've been on it before the fire and will go again next year. No it's not their newest ship and Not the oldest by far.
@kirbybaby12348 жыл бұрын
How the hell to they get it on (and off) those blocks?
@FireAlarmHowTooGuy8 жыл бұрын
+Cindy Black The ship comes in when the dock has water and they get it positioned on the blocks than they drain the dock to begin maintenance. After they finish the dock is flooded and the ship leaves and goes back to its cruise schedule. Dry docks are done so ships can get over hauls, repairs, or just routine engine or generator work done. Royal Caribbean has their ships in dry dock every 5 years. Not sure how Carnival does their dry dock schedule

The one we see in this video is a floating dry dock. The sides are huge tanks connected by a deck. The dock tanks get flooded and the whole thing slides under the ship, then the tanks are purged of water and up she comes with the ship in the middle.

Isnt it amazing. You can spray primer paint in the Bahamas, use diesel power plants in the Bahamas to generate power for ship repairs, you can get non union labor in the Bahamas all 60 miles from Florida where Americans are unemployed or at best are under employed. You have to love our government for supplying jobs to other countries by using the EPA and mandatory Union membership to move jobs overseas.

Great observation Lanc Mac. It took about 430 days to build the Empire State building......try that now! There are so many regulations hindering business in this country. It is making us a laughing stock to the rest of the business world. I am a small business owner, the EPA damn near shut my business down. I was fined 60 grand and had to let 9 of my 11 employees go....Basically over nothing. Who the hell wins? Other countries win. That was 9 people with families who were making a decent living. I thought the world of those men and it tore me in half to be forced to lay them off.

In a case like this its the insurance companies and Lloyds of London calling the shots. Once you declare an emergency and call for assistance, Lloyds own the ship. The Law of the Sea says the ship must be towed to the nearest port capable of the repairs. Once its fixed and inspected they then release it back to Carnival. The whole episode cost $100m. The UK look after their remaining ex colonies. They spent over $2b in updating and expanding the Bahamas facility. They can take up to four 100,000 ton cruise liners at a time. That work use to go to ports like Galveston, but it was too far to tow the ship. Galveston services the oil rigs in the gulf. Its not suitable for these massive ships. To pick up your points on Labour Regulations. The workers in the Bahamas are unionised but for the right reasons. You should not be so biased against unions. Think of them as extensions to a corporations HR department. Thats how they work here in AUstralia too. I am retired but I am still in a union. Union bashing went out with the Teamsters. Those guys painting get between $22 and $40ph and do four, 12 hour shifts a week. The repair work in the engine room was done by MAN in Germany, the suppliers of the generators, and the ships engine is looked after and repaired by MTU, also of Germany. There are many US dockyards in the US that could do this work but they are mainly Navy now.

Of all the ships that Carnival owns why Triumph?
@bflo7168 жыл бұрын
+MrRideutah completely false, carnival is the all around best value cruise line. Their cruises appeal to families, first time cruisers, and carnival loyalists. As stated previously the Triumph has a contract up into 2018 with New Orleans alone. This ship is not going anywhere any time soon. As a matter of fact carnival has no plans to decommission any of their ships, including the older ones like ecstasy. I'm a carnival cruise travel agent if you care to know why I know any of this...
