I recently found a mealy bug infestation in 3 of my pots. I soaked the media in water overnight then sprayed off the old soil. I was amazed at how much white scale was washed away. Came off like milk. I'm trying to get a handle so it doesn't get out of control. What sprays do you recommend on bare root or soil preps to knock it out? I'm finding it hard to locate the sulfur based fungicide that I saw you use.
@SarraceniaNorthwest5 ай бұрын
Yikes! Use neem oil to control the infestation. You can find it at your local garden center. Follow the directions on the bottle. You may need to spray every 5-7 days until you don't see any evidence of mealy bugs. You should also spray surrounding plants. If you need further assistance, write to us via Ask The Growers. www.growcarnivorousplants.com/ask-the-growers/

Are tadpoles in the bog water pools a problem ?
@SarraceniaNorthwest4 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching. Our pools are home to lots of Pacific tree frogs, so tadpoles are not a problem at all. Watch our video about frogs at the nursery. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aaC1c3aeaadrfac

My S. Alata are growing with a mixture of good pitchers, warped pitchers, and some growing sideways instead of straight up. Could this be to overcrowding and not cutting old pitchers off? Shold, I cut old pitchers off now or is too late, even if the pitchers are still looking colorful?

I tried keeping all my VFT in really shallow water all winter I haven't seen any of my VFT start to regrow, is it too soon to expect them to start coming back? Thank you for all of your help Jacob.

Hey Lance, your plants should show signs of new growth, but probably no open traps just yet. Write to us via Ask the Growers. Tell us more about your growing conditions and upload a photo or two. One of our growers will get back to you. www.growcarnivorousplants.com/ask-the-growers/

That white fluffy carnivorous plant at 3:05 must be a new hybrid species you developed. If I had to guess, I would say you must’ve crossed sarracenias with dionaea because I imagine that thing can snap it’s jaws shut really quickly like a flytrap and probably has a bottomless pit of a stomach always trying to pack more in like a pitcher plant. 😂😂😂

up a bit further north, my plants seem to be a lil slower waking up. sadly one that was struggling last year looks like it finally bit the dust. i built myself a cold frame for this year, so i saved myself from frost damage and heavy rain. i got many divisions from my oreophila and alatas this year too.

Thank you for watching! Sorry to hear about your plants. We would love to help you out. There are several reasons why this happens. @@SarraceniaNorthwest I think that one went just cause the frost last year was a little too much for it. It was a leuco hybrid and i'm in canada. 🥲 all my flavas, oreophilias and even alatas really do well here though.
@SarraceniaNorthwest5 ай бұрын
Leucophylla seems to be the most sensitive to extreme cold. If we ever lose a mother plant in winter, it's almost always a leucophylla.

I don't keep many insectivores and try to overwinter them inside my house. Sadly I've goy even fewer now winter has gone. My Nepenthes (sob, sob!) has bitten the dust. My Sarracenia might just pull through. My Drosera/Sundews have survived.Great information though and well presented so thanks for that. I may buy a few more this spring and see if I can overwinter them all in an unheated Scottish greenhouse. It could drop to minus 10C quite easily...
@SarraceniaNorthwest5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. Our weather patterns are similar to yours in Scotland, and we keep our plants outdoors throughout the year. We sometimes get down to -10°C, too. Watch our Volume 1 playlist. The last video in the playlist is about winter care. It might have some useful information for your situation. www.growcarnivorousplants.com/carnivorous-plant-videos/

Thanks for watching. Yeah, that's one of the hazards of urban living. We used to have trouble with racoons and jays when we had our nursery in Portland's city limits. One of our customers had success in deterring crows by usine a sprinkler with a motion detector.
