Replacing A Droplink On My SEAT Leon Cupra

Good evening everyone and welcome to another maintenance video! This time I'm replacing the offside droplink on Leo as one of the boots were split and his MOT was booked the week after I found out the boot was split. It may have been an unpleasant job due to the cold, but it was worth it as he passed with no advisories 🙌🏽.

I’m doing this on my polo. On the bottom bolt I’ve managed to shear a torx 30 bit inside the screw so the nut just spins. Like someone else said, it’s great you’re including the problems you had too. You can jack the wheel hub up a bit to line up the drop link holes.

Great video,I had to do my partners car,like you I removed the drivers side drop link,it like yours looked to big,tried lowering the torsion bar,got the threaded part through the hole,but wasn’t in properly, When I jacked up the other side Bingo in it went stray away no issues, 👍

Nice video , i recently did this today had same issue forgot to jack otherside . Unfortuantly mine was siezed solid so impacy gun no luck and the allen key holes was rounded trusty grinder worked well but due to weight on one side when cut through jack shifted. But 1 side done after 2hours in rain.

I work in a car repair garage (not as a mechanic, much to the relief of many!) and it's not uncommon for droplinks to have to be cut off especially on older cars, obviously. Thanks for watching.

That does not look like normal 5mm allen key hole inside the bolt? Better fit Some 12 Point Hex - XZN 8mm maybe? Wrong tools just destroys it.

Hi there, thanks for watching - I can confirm it is a hex, with is the same as allen key.

@@CarObsession In my case original bolt opens XZN 6mm / 18mm nut And spare part from biltema is 6 mm allen key. It has 19mm nut Golf 5 1k1 motorcode bse

Huh, how did you know I've got a hardtop? The MX-5 didn't feature in this video 😅. I'll be honest Kristian I have no intentions of selling it right now, and to be honest, there is a colour difference. If you ever see any pics of 'Monique' with her hardtop on, in the right light you will see the hardtop isn't actually the same colour, even though I was told it was taken from a Glen Eagles. I need a droplink replacing on my car. 👎 I know it's not a big job, but I'm taking it to a garage for 2 reasons. 1 I don't have the tools. And 2 I don't like working on cars in the cold weather. I would be like you afterwards can't feel my hands and feet.

Yeah, in hindsight I wish I had used one of the ramps at work as I would have more space to work with, and I would have been warmer. Oh well, I got the job done which is the main thing and Leo passed his MOT with no advisories! Thanks for watching.
