My dad was not big on t.v. no t.v. in our house til after dinner, usually only an hour a night, on an old b/w set from Rink's, but he absolutely adored Carol Burnett, said she " wasn't like the rest of Hollywood flakes, she was a good woman". I could put most everything he said aloud in 20 years on an hour long tape, minus while he was watching this show. He'd laugh, it was great. Sounds like I grew up in the 40s, but, I was born in 68. Just grew up on an old farm, with a simple family, that believed in simple life. The Carol Burnett Show was a big part of it in the evenings.

when I watched the „Carol Burnett Show“ as a boy, the „Eunice“ skits were my favorite. In time I began to see that there was a tragic undercurrent running throughout these skits. Carol Burnett said herself „that humor comes from a place of pain“. There was an episode once that I watched together with my mother and at the conclusion we both agreed the story was so real and pathetic that it was not funny anymore. They had gone over a delicate line from farce to pathos. It was pure genius, both the writing and of course Carol‘s heartfelt performance.

@@110654GREAT 😹 I did a little research on the writers of the family sketch. And sure enough one of the writers is from Missouri. I knew whoever wrote it had to have grown up in an environment similar to Raytown. Because it's too spot-on for someone to just come up with off the top of their head. Absolutely brilliant

I always wanted to be on stage with them..as a teen I sent a letter to Vicki Lawrence told her mama looked just like my grandma and I wanted to be an actor ..they mailed me back a photostill of Vicky and the words good luck..I taped it on my wall then my aunt told he about a bit part paying 300 cash..I got the job playing a concentration camp victim and I only had five German words to say.. we didn't have googled translate then but I recently found out it meant we breathe deeply in fear..I went on to do some modeling shoots after that..I. kinda understand Eunice wanting to be an actress .I felt her pain during the gong show sketch.

This show makes me miss my grandma, and all the fun my family had at her home. Thank you, Carol Burnett, for placing value on family... even when your own childhood was so difficult. You're a class act, my lady!! 😁💕💯

I never once saw Vicki Lawrence break character and bust up laughing in any of their skits. She may have done, but I only saw Tim, Carol and Harvey do that. Still, it was always funny as hell any time they did.

This gem is my favorite family sketch that they made. Poor Eunice should know better than to try and get a fun game going with these people. Thanks so much for sharing this video. There's a lot of comedy TV stuff that I enjoy, but the Eunice sketches are absolutely top drawer entertainment for me. The writing, the acting, the timing-- it's impeccable stuff, and a complete original.
