What a production! 🙂

That was quite a production number! Very nice! It was similar to one you might find in a big-budget 1940's musical.

Carol Lawrence was very good in this swing era big band salute, Busby Berkley would applaud. Thanks to playing this video, and have a nice day!

So great to see a Carol performance on Sullivan that deeply highlights her dancing skills as well as vocal prowess. And not to be huffing and puffing after the first half of so of this--makes me think she possessed breathing and overall lung and muscle control that, in particular, we these days see Pink do so well, time and again, in her live performances.

All the heavy dance numbers on The Ed Sullivan Show were lip-synced. Only the band and vocalists sang live. Carol and the ensemble are lip-syncing to their pre-recorded tracks.

@@andydrewlinger9301Easy. Check out the timestamps 3:54 - 3:58. Just after she does a flip and gets atop the prop piano, watch as she opens her mouth. The lyric you suddenly hear is SING. Yet Carol can clearly be seen accidentally mouthing the word SWING. The live nature of the performance automatically kicks in as she gets pulled away from that center camera and correctly mouths the lyrics!❤

In the opening, we see Ina Ray Hutton as one of the four bandleades pictures shown from the era. I think that's wonderful! She was very talented and I think she is so overshadowed by her male counterparts. I don't even think Ella Fitzgerald gets the credit she deserves for taking over Chick Webb's orchestra. However, Ina Ray had an all female orchestra at one time which is absolutely fantastic for her time.

@@waldolydecker8118 the height is the key. There were no other tap dancers then at 6'6 1/2 in height. Legendary tapper Honi Coles was 6'2. So I'm certain it was Tommy Tune.

Very talented lady. I’m wondering if maybe the vocals were pre-recorded. Mouth mouth movement doesn’t always match.

I thought that as soon as after the big dance break she's singing at full volume and I'm not sure that that's humanely possible. Even on Broadway, I believe dancers are often singing along with their pre-recorded tracks (or have a boost from offstage singers) after a demanding routine. Back in the 1940s, before everyone was expected to be a triple threat (singer/actor/dancer), Broadways shows often had two choruses, a singing chorus and a dancing chorus. This way everyone could do what they did best without getting quite so winded.
