Vic from Base Leg Aviation takes his wife Carol for her first ride in the Hummingbird helicopter. If you go to full screen you can see the AFS screen when Vic goes through the runup process.

Very nicely presented. This basic configuration of a normal four-seater helicopter is OK in itself. However, the efficiency can be increased a little. Since more or less constant speeds are used in normal use, a diesel engine with a compressor is more appropriate here. I like the centrifugal clutch with its friction surfaces, which are only ever needed for a short period of time. Another tip here. The bell could make it easier to check for wear with openings or slots. I really like it, it's a four-seater in the power class and weight class. Your meticulous work is very much appreciated by many people. Peter

LOL! Momma says you can keep it! Keep it! Awesome wifey right there. Thumbs up from from me, R/C helicopter pilot that Momma on my end gave the thumbs up on it and the first day at the flying field, she wanted to learn to fly. Got her her own airplane, head of the club buddy boxed her, and, well, one heck of a happy hubs here. 3 years later, we took our son to meet everyone and many good times had. Sadly, much of that were put on the back-burner due to life, health crisis on my end and jobs. One day, though, will get back in.

Vic, I’ve been following both Safari and Vertical Aviation for some time now. I am currently building an RV-14, but plan to own either a Safari or Hummingbird sometime in the near future. I’ve flown in the Safari 400 but have never seen the hummingbird in person. In a couple of your build vids you made reference to a builder you know in North Carolina. Where in NC is he located? I’m from the eastern part of the state so if he is close, and would be willing to show me his project, I’d love to pay him a visit. If not, I plan to make a factory visit so not a big deal either way.

Hi Vic.. First time viewer of your channel who is about to sub along with the like.. I don't know any back story (ala no previously watched videos by me) but this helicopter looks seriously smooth in flight! I have to agree with the Air "BOSS" Lady.. I generally prefer to be behind the camera too! Nice job across the board. I don't usually subscribe to channels right off the bat with a real level of curiousity, but I surely am now.. Thanks!!

they aren’t. some are flown from the left seat, as was my Hughes T-55.

@@baselegaviation1614 OK. Any idea why MOST helicopters are flown from the right seat?
@keithhe100
@keithhe100 Жыл бұрын
@@philsal17It goes back to the very early days of helicopters and is simply because the majority of people are right handed. The cyclic (between the legs) is typically always in hand whereas the collective (next to seat) does not need to be continuously manipulated. This the right seat means the right hand (dominant) handles cyclic and left the collective and any other tasks. That’s the primary reason but there are a few others too.

Aren't transponders supposed to be on the ground these days? Ring-around went away with side lobe suppression decades ago, and ADS-B is immune from ground problems.

No. It switches on with air data. It still works in the ground function.

Performance ? 80 KTS , vertical aviation claim cruise at 100MPH = 86Kts and range of 380 Mi = 330 Nm That does not add up with what you just said ? ( 2 hours at 80 KTS = 160 Nm )

I think I we are seeing a higher fuel burn due to the higher hp engine. keep in mind I am just coming out of the test program. I have found Brad to be very honest. As Inget more real world flying done and the engine gets more time on it, my guess is fuel flow will come down a bit. I do not think I will see 3.8 hours of flight time though.
