not quite, even in the bigger communities with working hospitals, bites are still lethal. The only way to survive a bite (aside from amputation) is radiation therapy (as seen in FEAR S7/S8), however in almost every case the amount of radiation needed to kill the infection, would also be lethal for the person you're trying to cure

Eriks death made him S8 Rick when Carl died. What makes it worse is he had the orange backpack but didnt get cursed by it because Eriks death became a good thing and he, Daryl and Negan carried Season 10 and 11.
