Dana Hill The crazy thing is that both Carole and Aretha were the same age, with Carole being slightly older. Ms King was born February 9, 1942, Miss Franklin on March 25th that same year.

Carol King and Viola Davis were getting their whole entire life with this performance! But heck everyone in the room was. Look at the backup singers even realizing that she is giving one hell of a performance. Most people know Aretha Franklin is an amazingly gifted woman who has had a stellar career that spanned decades....but out of all the great songs, all the great performances, and all the accolades she’s had, THIS performance at 73 years old fighting cancer and still being able to open her mouth and move an audience like that. If I never realized it before, yeah now I recognize why she was indeed the Queen🙌🏾

Imagine how these honorees feel having their lifelong achievements played out in front of them by contemporary artists and their life long friends with the POTUS and FLOTUS sitting close by. I believe it’s quite emotional. This honor Trumps the Grammys, Oscars, Tonys and the Emmys combined. It’s for a lifetime of work.

Look at how gracious and humble these legends were, taking a bow after every performance. With Aretha's stature, she can just stand there, but nope, she was born in a different generation and taking a bow is second nature to her. Just goes to show how she respects and appreciates her audience. The only other artist I know that did that was Whitney, she never fails to take a bow or even clap with the audience after every performance. In today's artists, nobody ever does that anymore.
@RamtownMike
@RamtownMike 4 жыл бұрын
That's a really good observation and quite true. It's a shame that practice of appreciating others and clapping or bowing to show it publicly is no longer 'a thing'. Whitney & Aretha were indeed class.

I NEVER heard Aretha sound so good!!! She sang the Carole King song like it was gospel because the 'you' in the song for Aretha was/is the Lord himself. FANTASTIC BEYOND BELIEF ARETHA .............RIP.
