This truly was the best performance of the night. The echoes of the stadium and the clarity of the hornline made this show unforgettable.

I feel so bad for this vocalist. I'm sure she had a dream of a lifetime touring with a drum corps and people were relentlessly piling onto her because of a decision that Crown's staff made on wanting a vocalist for this show. In my opinion, I really liked what they did with the show. She was the cherry on top of a great show. Yeah we all know Crown's hornline is the best hornline in DCI. She complimented it really well. Everyone sh*tting on this show for vocals can just go watch their beloved DCI from the 80s or whatever and let the rest of us enjoy modern drum corps.

Once they started going it sounded amazing, but I heard the same hiccups in this performance as many of their "tuning" sessions. It seems the beginning of the fugue gets a few people off so much it became habit unfortunately. Other than that, this is still my favorite performance besides 2013....obviously.

The show theme is based around deconstruction, an idea that roughly means you break something down and analyze it with the intention of building something new from it. In this case, this is a deconstruction of the drum corps activity as a whole. The beginning of the opener is meant to showcase a more traditional style of drum corps as the thing that is being deconstructed. Crown uses that opening hit to remind the crowd of powerful hornlines that drum corps is known for. The opener is also meant to take on a more literal idea of deconstruction. That's why you see things like the yard lines becoming skewed and you hear things like the melody from London bridges falling down. The percussion feature introduces a feeling of uneasiness that carries throughout the rest of the opener and futher pushes this idea of things falling apart. It reminds me of the feeling you get near the end of a jenga game. There's also some excellent foreshadowing using parts from the beginning of the closer. The ballad uses the song "For Good" from wicked to represent how the activity is changing rapidly from what it used to be earlier in the decade and how this change is healthy for the activity and should be embraced in order for drum corps to grow. I feel like the closer is meant to be a look into how drum corps may evolve as it moves forward. I feel like that's why there's all the weird voice modulation and all of the moving props with the different instruments attached to them. Crown was just thinking of creative ways that electronics and props might be incorporated into future dci shows. It's kinda like a Tomorrowland version of drum corps lol. Once they get to the "I KNOW YOU!" I think of it as a reminder that no matter how drum corps evolves it will always be the fundamental elements of drum corps that truly make the activity what it is. (I just realized how corny the last sentence sounds but I'm keeping it)

@@martyfore7163 Thank you very much. I've been wondering for over 5 years. Now I know, it was a total propaganda show, ...that failed miserably. The opening was so good, that made the whole second half of the show unintelligible. They showed what modern drum corps could be with the amazing talent and writing and then showed us where modern drum corps is actually going... into cacophonous nonsense. I also do not appreciate any work of art, no matter the media, that has to be explained to be understood. If can't understand your message with what you are presenting from the title and the piece itself, then you've failed as an artist/designer.
