Really enjoyed your one year review!! I have a JLS192 which I use mostly for Georgia lakes. Have been fighting balance issues and an now trying self-leveling trim tabs. Thanks for the great info.

No. I sold my 162 to my brother. I bought a bigger boat so I could reach out a little further. I also have some big plans for my channel that require a bigger boat. I have a walk through video showing the new boat on my channel.

Awesome video and boat! I fished out of a Boston Whaler Montauk 17 for over 30 years and for the most part loved it. I fished the N.Y. south shore ocean inlets, Montauk near shore and the Long Island Sound and the boat never failed me but if I was to purchase a new boat yours would be the one I’d go with! Your boat is laid out perfectly for the striped bass fishing I did. Unfortunately retirement moved me to a land locked location and the ownership of a boat is in my past 😔. Thank you for the salt water fix your videos provide, and good luck with your CS Skiff going forward!

I enjoyed your reviews. I think after 6 months with using the freedom boat club vessels I prefer it over owning a boat. I’m not sure about maintenance, cleaning or replacing items especially the trailer. It also seems cheaper to use their boats. Just pick it up and drop it off.

Holy crap, 20 miles?!? I have a JLS 178 and I'm terrified to go outside of the jetties at mayport. Granted I'm still young at boating, maybe 1 day I'll test the waters nearshore. For now, I'll stick to inshore fishing and bridges. 😁

100 % weather dependent. It was an unusually perfect weather day. It was literally a lake out there that day. That being said, the hull design lends itself to fair weather near shore fishing very well. Thanks for watching and your comments Tight lines 🤙 🎣

I've had my 192 20 miles out of crystal river, you have to pick your days to your experience level. But I will say. These boats are the cheapest boat that can fish the areas they can fish.

You still have it looking like new! I always had my boat looking like that too. Always gave it a good bath after every use and opened up all the hatches to air dry before putting it away. I did use marine wax on my gelcoat. I am wishing I would have kept my last boat after selling it 10 years ago. The price of new boats today is downright ridiculous. Even used boats that are 10 to 15 years old are selling more than what I paid for my last Ranger Ghost 168 with a 90 yamaha brand new!
@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom, I really appreciate that. It is my experience that it is far easier and cost-effective to keep things up from the start rather than play catch up later. That is especially true in a saltwater marine environment. I plan on keeping this boat for a very long time. Tight lines 🤙 🎣

I saw some of those videos as well. I don't recall seeing one with the JLS model. I have not had that issue so far 🤞. There are alot of Carolina Skiffs out there and many are used for commercial fishing, crabbing, etc. I don't forsee any issues but I will certainly keep an eye on it.

That’s a great looking boat. I’m new to boating and I’ve been looking to get either a gheenoe or a CS as my first boat. I’ve been looking at used boats and I would probably buy a new Suzuki motor for it because I hear hands down they are probably the best way to go. What are your thoughts on getting my first boat.
@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing6 ай бұрын
I have been very happy with my Carolina Skiff. I have also been very impressed by the 90 hp Suzuki. It sips fuel. I can cruise at 27 mph in fair conditions and get 7+ mpg. Obviously less favorable conditions and faster speed can affect that number but overall even on bad days I can avg 5gph. A gheenoe would be a good choice as well. Especially in real skinny water. It really depends on what you want to do with the boat. I feel like the Carolina Skiff will be a more versatile boat. I have had it in 6" of water and 20 miles offshore. I hope I was able to help a little. Tight lines 🎣

I enjoyed mine while I had it. Things I wished they changed : putting the fuel tank under the console so the boat rides even, wished it had more deck space, and also wider width. Overall its a nice boat and can get you where you want to go.

Hey Shawn! Curious if you have any videos on your trolling motor install. I’m curious on how you mounted it to the bow and your battery set up/wiring. I own a 178jls and will be installing soon. Any help is greatly appreciated! Tight lines!
@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing5 ай бұрын
Hi, I am sorry, I do not have any videos of the trolling motor install. I just sold my 162 JLS to my brother or I would go take some video for you. I am moving up to a 22' boat due to be finished by the end of the month. (That is why there hasn't been any recent video) I had the trolling motor on the 162 rigged at the dealership. It was mounted with a quick release mount. It plugged into the factory outlet at the bow. That ran back to Two batteries (24V system) located next to my starter battery in the center console. I know that isn't much but I hope it helps. Tight lines 🎣

Do you find yourself "trimming the tabs" much in all around use? Im just wanderings if fixed tabs would be sufficient?
@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing7 ай бұрын
I prefer to be able to adjust my trim. It allows me to adjust for sea conditions and weight distribution. I also use my tabs to lean the hull away from a strong quartering or crosswind as it helps reduce the amount of wind spray into the boat.

I am looking at a 192 jls and this video was very helpful. But I can’t find an answer to my most important question, maybe you can help me!! Do these boats seriously draft 6inches??? I need something that does and can hold 4 guys. And I haven’t found anyone to confirm the draft that carolina skiff advertises. Let me know if that’s accurate, close, or complete malarky
@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Жыл бұрын
My 162 JLS drafts approximately 6". The hull will go shallower than my lower unit without touching bottom. That being said, I that is just me in the boat and I have to idle carefully out to deeper water. My boat is aft heavy and squats noticeably if I am heavy handed on the throttle. I can't speake for the 192 as I haven't rode on one. I hope my experience is helpful. Tight lines 🤙 🎣

Hello I got a question I've done a lot of work to my Carolina Skiff 162 JLS as well as you've done the question I have what do you do with the rod holders along the gunnel. Because the cockpit is only 6 ft 5 in a 7ft rod will not even fit onto them rod holders. Reason why I'm asking this question because I was going to change them rod holders and put some modern ones up there. And I found out that the cockpit is only 66 and a half feet long so my 7ft rides will not work the question I'm asking you what do you use them for I'm taking them completely out and having all my gelcoat 24 screw holes gel coated and have it all flushed cuz I have I have no use for that if you can't put your rod holders in there what do you think Neff Carolina Skiff they didn't do the design on a lot of their boats excellent there's some flaws?
@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing Жыл бұрын
I use mine to store my net, gaffe, deck brush and my bottom/trolling rods (they are short enough to fit). You are right however, all of my other rods go in the vertical rod holders on the center console.

Find it weird that boat has max passenger weight is under 600lbs, but my kayak is 650lbs. How is that possible.
@NorthFloridaSaltwaterFishing4 ай бұрын
It's still a 16' boat with a liner, 2 bait wells, 3 batteries, trolling motor, 90hp motor, 20gal fuel tank etc. Not really apples to apples. Not sure how much passenger weight would be left if all that was added to a kayak.

Thank you for your comment. Fortunately, I haven't had to source any dealer only parts up to now, so I can't speak to Carolina Skiff's service.
