Is see people comment that this coop is overkill, etc. When you invest the time into raising healthy chickens, you want them happy and protected from predators. We have fox, mink, and raccoons, that will make short work of a flock. I love these designs, for their security and ease of cleaning! Five stars in my book!
@Donnybrook104 жыл бұрын

Thank you for your comments Jeanette. Yes, this coop is very fancy and not something everyone would want built for their chickens. It is predator proof (as all our coops are) and will last a lifetime (like all our coops), and we hope like all our coops, it makes things easier for the chicken keepers. We believe our least expensive to our most expensive coops are worth the investment. The designs are whatever you can imagine! Thanks again for your comments.

I’ve raised chickens 4 times in my life and it seems fancy to have a drawer for chicken feed when you hypothetically could have used for chicken roosts. I got a chicken coop that size but not fancy just nest boxes instead of the open hatch idea. If your not interact with chickens 101 they’ll always be skittish.

My mom grew up during the Great Depression, so was used to living simply. By the mid 1940s she was a divorced mom with 3 kids. Things got better and she did really well in life. But, I’m sure if that old chicken coop was anything like this one she would have loved it.

I want to see a working coop with all the chickens in to see how things are in reality. Further, I find that one small long ladder and tiny hole into the nesting area can be a bit of a bottleneck. It would have been good to have two, one on each side (not completely to the side, because of the risk of rain hitting it). Two might be a quite an essential thing because these hens can be quite vicious towards a particular hen and she therefore might have an alternate point of escape. Also, there might be lots of hens here, which will mean more traffic on one small ladder back and forth.

I made my coop and run too big for my brood but my idea (like yours) was to keep everyone healthy and the chicken mess able to compost and breakdown fast without having a smelly sty. Chicken coops dont have to stink. They aren't pretty on the inside after a bit but they dont have to stink. I absolutely love your coops, your education and reason for why you do what you do, and addressing the chicken police. Lol! I'm really digging the roost poles. Those are different. I did have enough room in my run to put up a deer feeder that holds 150# of feed and can feed up to 6 times a day. We added a funnel to channel the food to a smaller area because the feeder slings 20+ feet outside of the run. We added running water using pex tubing and ran electricity to the coop. Southeast Texas gets pretty crazy hot during the summer so we added a fan and supplemental lighting with heat lamps for the winter months to help with egg production. We did pay close attention to breed selection for our area so they wouldn't be too stressed out during weather change. Thanks for the video and my chicken group have been asking for ideas on coops and now I can help direct people here for great ideas and details for a successful coop and long life to their brood. ❤

I love the design and the overall look of the coop. I was surprised at the tiny nesting box for such a large coop and run. How many chickens does the homeowner plan on having? Did you put wire cloth to block the gaps between the fascia board and the roof? Just wondering if it is necessary to keep swallows and bats from nesting and roosting? will there be lighting in the run area? Catios are a big thing now and not everyone is handy enough to build one themselves. Have you thought about designing and building them too? Great explanation of the coop and hen house!!

The nest box size is 12 inches, which is great for most standard hens. They go in there to feel safe to lay, however, we also stress that our dividers are removable, to accommodate larger or broody hens. We haven't had issues with swallows or bats nesting under our roofs. We build many custom animal enclosures, including for goats, turkeys, and quail. Catios are definitely something we can build if requested. Thanks for watching and your comments

Thank you Hannah! We think there is no reason why a chicken coop can't be gorgeous! If you can dream it, we can build it. Thanks for watching.

Hope those chickens lay some golden eggs to pay for all that expense!

I agree... I'd love to have one or two of these but I couldn't pay $10,000 or what?? .... $20,000?? .... idk what the price of that might run once all is said and done. Watch Justin Rhodes' YT channel and see their "chicken garden" chicken run. It's a great system they have there and they use a simple chicken tractor inside a permanently fenced chicken run. The chickens just go up into the chicken tractor at night.

Yes and Justin has his chicken yard right next to his garden. Poop goes in garden--garden scraps get thrown into chicken yard 😋

Fancy custom coop just screams rich person with more money they know what to do with. It got me when he said the "maintenance person" will install the heater and the paint matched door. It's a nice coop but these people are raising chickens because it's trendy not because they want food. If you're a normal person you would be building your own, and just look at these and find things that will make yours better, because he did give away some great design ideas for free.

@@BV1180 self-sustainable they would build their own or at least do some of the work. This person paid a group of others a lot of money to have chickens for a hobby. Money must not be a problem for you or you use others. You would understand that this is a luxury setup if you had work a hard day in your life.

I'm from Northern MN. The weasels we have here looks like they can dig between predator apron squares. I plan on building or ordering a coop from them in the near future. Love the videos and seen everyone I can. They're all awesome and beautiful.
