OMG!!! I've been watching youtube art videos for about 4 years now and never came across your channel! You are an amazing teacher! Will def look at your class more closely! The first time I felt enthusiastic watching videos on how to draw faces. Not sure what it was, if you've had some vocal training or smtg similar, but your voice doesn't make me fall asleep and your analogies for explaining the things are awesome!

Oh that is such a nice thing to hear. I'm happy these videos are keeping you awake and drawing ;) What are your drawing goals for yourself?

@@CarolinPeters well, at the moment mainly a hobby, but hopefully I want to get good enough at it to work on commissions after I retire from my current job. Still far far away from happening, but would love to get really good at drawing! And still investigating mediums such as coloured pencils, panpastels, watercolours, pen & ink, etc. Anything really. I need to take a good course. I am a good student, but I feel like developing my art skills might require some tutoring... I had a look at the website and there are no spots available. I entered the waitlist, so let's see! Tks for the content!

Oh great! I'm glad it was useful. In the previous video I talked about proportions a little bit, which may help you with the eyes, too.

Thank you so much! This was soo helpfull! 😄💙 By the way.. should I practice this method drawing from photos or real life (self portraits etc.). In January 2022 I will be doing entrance art exams in art school. There will be a portrait from a life model and figure composition painting from imagination..
@CarolinPeters3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I'm so happy this was useful for you! It really doesn't matter too much if you draw from life or photo for the structural practice drawings. The important part is that you use good reference images, though. Don't use images with weak/indirect lighting, don't use selfie-style images (because the way we usually hold the phone for selfies makes the camera distort the face), don't use images of people smiling/laughing/etc. A neutral face with a nice 3/4 direct light source is perfect. If you have someone willing to sit for you, that's great, too. But often they expect to see the drawing and that opens a whole other can of worms, especially if you're still just practicing. Let me know if you have any more questions about this :) Good luck with your entrance exams!!!

What pencil you're using?
@CarolinPeters Жыл бұрын
Whoops, sorry, just seeing this now. Materials I used in this video: -smooth Newsprint paper -Wolff's Carbon pencil 2B (carbon pencils are a bit less powdery than charcoal. I love their buttery feeling against the smooth newsprint)
