We started making the journey to the desert when we realized it took as long to get there as it did to our cabin in the Yukon. The desert is different from anything we see here in BC, Canada and we just love it. We adore our own province and the beauty that it possesses, and we love the freezing winters we get to enjoy at our cabin, but....it is also lovely to be able to head south after Christmas and enjoy the warmth and sunshine in Arizona. We are really missing it this year with the borders closed. We're hoping by next spring we'll be able to hit the road again! Thanks for giving us the desert via video, Carolyn-Stay well!

I didn't like the desert when I was young. Too hot; too brown. But when my hubby were full-timing, we spent 6 months every year in the southwest and I grew to love the desert. The peace; quiet. I have been giving some serious thought to going out there for a bit next winter. Beats freezing here in CT. (edited to say we spend 6 months a year in the desert)

I was out in the Great Basin just outside of Baker and found a spot like that. I was walking and noticed mounds in the same shapes of the Anasazi archeological site in Baker and looking closely found shards of ancient pottery and rocks chipped to create a scraping tool. At night the stars were so prolific it was hard to distinguish Orion amongst them. The beauty of the rocks against the blue skies was phenomenal. The desert allows for another type of beauty. I think too being a geologist and historian helps to keep the wonder strong. Wildlife even down to the smallest bug keeps me entertained and feeling alive.

Carolyn , thanks so much for the great video . I too love love love everything about the desert . ( with the exception of the rattlesnakes ) . The cacti , the dry air , the miles and miles of open space , but the best to me is the sound of the rocks crunching under ones feet as one walks . ( I know it's weird . Lol) . Thanks for filming while you were cooking . I love that too . ( another weird thing from me . Lol ) . I found this video to be very very peaceful . I enoyed it so much that I watched it 3 times ! I know it was filmed back in March . I hope you are feeling much better now seeing as how we are into May . Sending you and Sadie blessing of health and safety . XXXXX Ontario Canada

I think the scenery of the deserts are Beautiful. Enjoy your stay, the view there looks awesome!

Gorgeous video Carolyn.. I don’t know where you are on your “menopause journey” but our national radio here in Ireland has been talking about it all week... seriously eye opening stories from women detailing their symptoms and boy!.. most of us had no idea how many of our organs are affected by depleting oestrogen and progesterone .. there was a study done years ago which frightened women off HRT but that has now been debunked .. I’m sure there are natural remedies available too, it would be interesting to hear what your naturopath says about it but I would definitely make enquiries .. I don’t know about the States but here in Ireland we were majorly in the dark until now! Happy travels x

You were just 2 hours east of me. I'm so glad you are feeling better and stronger. I do the same with my oats except that I add flax seed (for high cholesterol) and chia seeds (to improve satiety - I'll feel full a couple of hours longer plus it's a great plant based protein.) But since we have so much solar, I nuke it. So about every 8 days I make up packets of oats with LOTS of cinnamon and whatever else sounds good, then add brown sesame seeds, nuts for my healthy fat, chia, flax and sunflower seeds, and then each morning I dump them into a bowl, pour over as much almond milk as will fit and cook them on high for about 2.30 min. That would not work because keeping enough almond milk on hand would be a bummer and so would making a giant pot and portioning out a daily serving. I add fruit at the time I cook it and it honestly depends on what is available - mostly frozen blueberries - but again, space, right? Oh well, my genius idea only works in a house I guess. Sadie's developing hunting skills will hopefully help the next time a mouse makes it's way in. Plus if anyone came near, she'd warn you. So she's a lovely companion and also kinda handy as well as being so beautiful. Miners drove around the desert looking for silver but also when it used to rain a lot here, cattle were grazed so people would camp out with them. If you find tin cans with a silver spot in the center of one end, it was probably pre 1930s when a 'hole in the top' was sealed with lead after the food was inserted & heated to sterilize. Lots of interesting stuff in the desert.

Carolyn, on You Tube there is a channel of a young man, who saved his money working in the financial markets, and bought the ghost town of Serra Gordo. Serra Gordo silver mines brought out tons and tons of silver back in the day and are just outside of Death Valley. He goes deep. I think you would enjoy his channel. His journey seeking things used over 100 years ago and digging deeper into their use and meaning, is really awesome. Hugs to you and Sadie. Oh yeah, that is 100% volcanic rocks you are treading on. By way, your spot is stunningly beautiful.

#250 Carolyn, each state has areas like the one your at. I have found some in the most interesting areas. Here in the East, as crowded as it is, their is tranquility. Michigan is my state with plenty of shore line on the 4 great lakes. The Detroit area is crowded, that's where industry is and the population lives. Most of the other areas have space!
