The wistful comic charm of this endearing scene is often overlooked. There's something truly GREAT about Carousel. It's much more than just a pleasant musical show. This version is superb.

When I met talented Audra (Ann) McDonald I asked her if director Nicholas Hytner would put back in her verse “When children are awake” which is usually the mid-section. I wish it had been used, but it’s not in the film either. She won the Tony for this role.I loved this beautifully sung revival. There are many wonderful recordings of “Carousel”.

. . . I am remembering when FWAFA did this show, recently. Ah, if only I could see it again . . . I wonder if they made a video of it during one of the nights . . . I do not think I ever enjoyed Carousel as much as when I watched it at FWAFA . . .

I know who plays Carrie in this production but who plays Mr. Snow? does anybody know? this guy sounds terrific.

Enoch Snow was played by Eddie Korbich. Years later he played Scuttle in the Broadway production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. He has been pretty active in stage work as well as animation voice-overs.

@@anthonysimpsonanygoround8749 Mr. Korbich managed to stand out in the tiny part of Mendel, the Rabbi's son in the 1991 B'way revival of Fiddler. I also remember the Chava, Jennifer Prescott (Mrs. Brian D'Arcy James) who was in the ensemble of this Carousel, understudy and I think eventual replacement for Julie.

I was mistaken about Eddie Korbich in Fiddler, must be getting forgetful in my old age. That actor was David Pevsner, the 1989 Sweeney Todd was the one in which I saw Mr. Korbich.

@@kennethwayne6857 Actually, there is a connection between the 1994 revival of “Carousel” with a 2004 revival of “Fiddler” because Sally Murphy (Julie in “Carousel”) would go on to play Tzeitel in “Fiddler”, even though she was actually only one year younger than Rosie O’ Donnell (Golde, replacing Randy Graff) much like Susan Luckey was only 4 yrs younger than Shirley Jones as her mom in the 1956 film of “Carousel”. I met most of the cast of the 1994 “Carousel” including Eddie Korbich and we actually had some things in common (including losing some hair!) as I had played Enoch Snow in high school, but of course I would have relished the roles of Billy or Jigger as well! He apparently in his past had operated the Grand carousel at Knoebel’s Grove, PA and due to my interest in the show “Carousel” I wound up showing people around as the operator at five different carousels including the large antique at Central Park, NYC. Carousels have become so valuable and I’ve always been fond of the art, music and history of them. 🎠🎪

@@aminsadeghpour1549 Out of the dozen recorded versions of “Carousel” out there I’ve noticed that all the characters, especially Enoch Snow, are either given an operatic treatment or something tending to a more “characterful” interpretation. The newest recording (on Chandos) is to be released Sept 2024 and is finally the most complete, adding all verses, dance music, scene changes, entr’acte, etc., and runs at approx 107 mins. It is conducted by the brilliant John Wilson. 🎠🎪
