Man your videos have been getting me pumped! So much so that I took my lunch break today to fish for Carp at a pond 10 min from my office. Ended up catching my largest carp ever! Probably a 20lb fish!

Thanks Sean, it is definitely not easy. I was out this weekend with the best trout fisherman I know he was skunked. I have had him out maybe 5 times with me. He brings his own SUP and he still hasn’t even hooked one. Great guy and I love fishing with him but carp are a tough fish to connect with.

How do you find good water to fish for carp. I want to catch one but not sure where I should go.
@carponthefly8282
@carponthefly8282 Жыл бұрын
I spend a lot of time on google earth. Seriously. I have a some really cool areas that I have found scouting on google earth. I also have found quite a few that were duds. So there isn’t a sure fire method. But what we are looking for is water knee deep or less. A lot of times we can get a pretty good idea about that from google earth. I was in North Dakota last year for business and I google earthed the area and found a great spot to fly fish for carp. I ended up catching about 10 carp, 3 Buffalo fish and a handful of catfish on water I had only ever viewed on google earth. And I didn’t see another human out there. I think there are a lot of untapped places out there. But because they are untapped, we have to go find them. But that, to me, is part of the fun.

Any tips for post spawn as we get further into summer?
@carponthefly8282
@carponthefly8282 Жыл бұрын
Post spawn is usually still really good fishing, the carp can be harder to find, and a little more spooky. It really just comes down to finding them, and hopefully in spots you can actually fish.

Been getting after them at Utah lake and some of the clearer tributaries, it's been awesome but the conditions have to be perfect to get into them. Do you have any advice for when it's cloudy/breezy so it's harder to see them? Also if the water isn't perfectly clear?
@carponthefly8282
@carponthefly8282 Жыл бұрын
Yes, but it is a long topic. I actually was thinking about making a video to discuss that. As a start I can give you some tips. And you are right, it can be really difficult if conditions aren’t perfect right now. As we get into summer and fall, the conditions are mostly perfect, but spring tends to get a lot of changing temps, clouds, wind, etc. I’m actually heading out fishing right now, but when I get back later I will try and get you a good response to help you get started on this.

Today was one of those days. Cloudy, windy. Really tough. So, the first thing is you need to be good with less fish. There is just no way that you are going to as successful on a day like today. So we have to change our mindset. The next is to try and find ambush points. Areas where you can stand without moving and get shots. A lot of time this takes some water knowledge. I know at the spur a few pots that funnel the fish into small areas that I can sit on. Try and find leeward spots. Spots that are behind some structure and protected from the wind. Typically you can see better if you are looking in the direction of the wind as well. You also can go to areas of complete shade. If there are stands do trees or a ridge, getting into the shade can also be beneficial on cloudy and windy days. You can also fish nervous water, this usually means getting shallower than typical. If you have never done this it can be a frustrating good time. To see nervous water the best angle is towards the sun(even though the sun is behind clouds. The water will vibrate in an unnatural way. That is a start, it’s tough.

Like dreadnought for dread nothing. Nought is nothing. Why Yanks remove letters from words and pronounce them incorrectly is a mystery. Lke Maths is short for MathematicS and the s on the end is important as Maths requires two numbers.
