Carp Pilot Version 3 is launched

The 2022 huge upgrade of Carp Pilot Pro is being launched. The launch process was kicked off evening April 10th. The upgrade is likely to appear for you on April 11th.
The upgrade also includes the custom fit apps for Alien Baitboats (Alien Pilot) and DH Concepts (DH Pilot). For these apps there is no setup process involved. These apps are truly plug and play, just install and put the boat on the water and be in full control the moment you start the app. Also, as you probably know, some of the most advanced features in the Carp Pilot Pro require subscription. That is not the case for Alien Baitboats and DH Concepts. These apps are all inclusive. Or in short: If you bought a boat from Alien Baitboats or DHconcepts you are better off with their custom fit apps.
As some of you know, I am not a developer by profession. I work full time as a Project Manager in the telecom industry. And I have a passion for carp angling. A couple of years back I got tired of trying to get developers of other great drone apps to see the anglers point of view. And realized that if we ever are to have apps that suit our hobby then we need to roll up our sleeves and do something ourselves. So I started buying some programming classes. And struggled my way through it all. After a while I have realized that I actually enjoy making this app. And the honest truth: I want the app to be great because I am also a bait boat addicted carp angler. And I hate not to be in total control of my boat when using it at the lake side...
So... Living in Norway, in April we still have ice on our waters. That's why the winters are such a great time to do a lot of coding. Spring is finally coming, so the huge effort to improve the Carp Pilot Pro simply had to come to an end around now. It is time for me to complete a couple of new bait boats. And to get my gear ready for the season. Development has not come to an end, though. The app has been in beta for almost 7 weeks. A whopping 26 beta versions my poor beta testers has had to endure. I am confident that the quality is OK. But some issues always remain to be discovered. So please, if you experience issues please do not hesitate to contact me on [e-mail].
Focus in the near future is to fix whatever problem that you may discover. And to use the app myself. In addition I have some really hairy goals for this app in the future. It will take some time to get there, simply because it will be difficult. Should I succeed you will be very pleased, though. I know that I will. In addition I will onboard at least one additional bait boat company. And, as you may have noticed, I have put more energy into making videos. And I will make an effort to provide you additional videos to explain the details so you get some bang for the petty bucks I ask for for the Carp Pilot Pro.

Yes, boat with two motor and boat with a motor and a rudded makes no difference. I personally only have boats with two motors and almost never use the remote control at all.

@@TheCarpPilot I tried using the joystick yesterday, but only the right engine works when trying to go straight, there is no second engine channel in the settings, only the rudder channel. You have to move your finger to the right to activate the rudder channel to get the second motor to work, but that's not really convenient.

@@kastornov1979 Yes, understanding ArduPilot on this particular area is the challenge: First we have the physical ports on the Pixhawk: The recommended approach is to attach the left motor to servo channel 1 and the right motor to servo channel 3. Maybe you attached the same way, or slightly different? That is the physical ports. Then Ardupilot have two additional terms: The steering channel and the gas pedal (throttle) channel. These may be altered by modifying the RCMAP parameters. You may or may not have altered these as well. And on top of it all you may, when boat was configured, reversed one or both of these channels. Now given that, the joystick config works as follows: Down at the bottom in the settings you need to alter the Steering or the Throttle channel in case you did not use ports 1 and 3. There is no left or right "gas pedal" for the joystick. Just get these two channels correct. And when you do, straight forward/backwards movement will make boat go forward/backwards. And movement 45 degrees either way will make one motor run faster than the other. If your boat moves backwards while moving joystick forwards: Select "reverse" (or "rev") for the throttle. If you boat turns left (right motor pushing more air backwards than the left) when you try to steer to the right: Select "reverse" (or "rev") for the steering. You can do this at home, just feel how the propellers either blows or sucks air. Then at the bank it just works.

@@TheCarpPilot Thank you for your reply! It got me thinking that there are logical channels and physical channels. The problem turned out to be that I had the "two paddles" mode on. And the mixing of channels was happening in the remote transmitter, so when I connected the tablet with the carppilot joystick, the autopilot was waiting for an already mixed signal and would not mix channel 1 and 3 itself, once I disabled that mode, the problem went away. Thank you!

I have a subscription, but after reaching my destination, it does not open the flaps automatically, I have to open them manually. after slowing down, the boat stops less than a meter before reaching the destination (no green information "arrived at the destination") servo connected well

If you did not have a subscription you would not even be able to start the goto+. So that part is OK. If you do not get the green message saying you reached the target then your autopilot does not realize that it arrived. My initial suspicion is that you may have set the WP_RADIUS too low, forcing the autopilot to give up. This event from the autopilot is needed to tell the app it has arrived, triggering the goto+ actions. @@MariuszT-c6y Yes you can use the AP with no RC transmitter at all. Even if you do add an RC receiver and have a transmitter you really do not need to use it. That's exactly what I do all the time. If you look at the video series for how to build a bait boat I used a remote transmitter from Skydroid (model T10). And I CAN use the transmitter. But I never do. I selected this transmitter because it can also transfer telemetry. What I do is to hang the T10 in the hook underneath the camera tripod. I then only use the app. The first few meters out from shore I use the on screen joystick to drive out. And back into shore. For driving to a spot to bait up I use i use goto function (tap a marker and it drives there). Or goto+ function (then it drives to the marker, baits up and returns home automatically). On an older boat I have wifi telemetry and a Flysky i6x remote. Years back I stopped using the transmitter. Never takes it out of the bag. I only use a tablet on a tripod. And I know several who simply removed their RC receiver. And also a professional builder who instead of using RC transmitter/receiver instead provides the customer a Bluetooth game controller. Works like a charm if you find the on screen joystick a bit too small. There is a video about that on the channel as well.

If you only build in a GPS and an ESP 8266 (no auto pilot, just manual control but full app experience): A decent GPS like M8n costs from around €20, and the ESP8266 from around €5. In the test video of GPS only mode (new video) i used a M10s GPS from Mateksys for around €40. If you want a full blown autopilot I would recommend a Pixhawk 2.4.8 in a package with a M8n GPS and power module, a wifi booster and a Pixhawk UDP serial adapter. You may already have a wifi booster and an echo sounder like a Raymarine built in, so let's just focus on the autopilot part and the UDP telemetry: A full full autopilot kit from Radiolink (generally good quality) is about €200. You can get cheaper 2.4.8s from somewhere between €100-150 also. Personally I would buy the radiolink. And a wifi serial to UDP adapter for telemetry approx €10-15. At least what I found just now using my Ali Express app.

It should be available pending on how Google do their rollout around the world. The launch was successfully executed last night around 4 in the morning, with full rollout. Checked here in Norway just now and it the 3.0.4 version is for sure available.

Yes. So I heard. I do not have a Wifish to test with. And it obviously works different than the pro 4/5. To integrate the pro 5 was really difficult, and even if I did own a Wifish I am not sure I could succeed to be honest.
