The Carpathians look very beautiful especially in winter. I can only remember growing up with tales of count Dracula with his castle in the Carpathians. The name sounded spooky and ominous. Now I see they are actually gloriously beautiful and I would definitely love to see them one day. I know Transylvania is in Romania but still, near enough and still in the Carpathians.

This was amazing Anna! I know Slovakia well, and I have a friend in Mukachevo. Last year we connected. He has been hosting 3 refugee families who fled Kharkiv following early hostilities. We spent some time together, got some funds together to help him, and I had a final spare day. It was 26 May 2022 and we decided to try and climb Hoverla. The night before I checked the weather and thunderstorms in the area were safely moving away. I cannot imagine being there in a thunderstorm, also in Slovakia they say be very careful of sudden storms in the Tatra’s . Somehow we made it to the summit. Although surreal and beautiful, I couldn’t forget the war, and I wanted to remember before God all the pain of the people, already so much damage, so many people lost their lives, their loved ones. There were few people there , but miraculously there was a lady I met on the summit called Anna, with two of her friends. She was from Lviv and like me works as a pharmacist! It seemed so incredible. I am over 60 years and not used to mountain climbing, it took everything to do it. Slava Ukraini!

Winter sports in the Carpathian Mountains, summer sailing on the Dniepro River, and beautiful wooden churches - with Shchederyk sung at Christmas. Two remarks. It is lovely to see youngsters beaming and getting on the lift for some everyday life. Secondly, who knew you had a sweater inspired by the Norwegian "Marius jumper" style (with the "snowflakes). Finally, every Scandinavian would feel instantly at home here. Mountains. Hot tubs. Skiing resorts. Freshwater mountain trout... Know also that we all cheer for the awesome results of Dzjyma Julia and Pidrutsjnij Dmitro in the biathlon World Championship. It is extra awesome since they, unlike their friends and colleagues, spend so much time talking with the international journalists, not about sports but about the situation in Ukraine. They have an abundance of physical and mental energy to both represent Ukraine as "ambassadors" in this historical war and also manage to do their very best in competition. They, just as the whole population of Ukraine are a constant inspiration.

But rather than stating that speed is controlled by turn shape and radius, perhaps I should have recommended snowboarding instead. It’s a better match to Anna’s defiant personality. You ought to try cross-country skiing. There will be no fear of going too fast, it's much more fun, you can go anywhere you like at your own pace. I highly recommend skiing through forests at night by the light of the full moon. Just magical.

I have a Danish friend who has lived in Lviv for more than 10 years. He says that excursions to the nearby Carpathian mountains are a big deal, especially in summer/autumn when there are berries and mushrooms in the forest (I don't think my Danish friend is a skiing enthusiast). The Old Town of Lviv is also a unique example of 18th-century architecture and as such one of the best-preserved places in Europe (the city is on UNESCO's list of World Historic Sites). A nice video. Keep up the good work Anna.
